Maxi ain't cheap, he's the hardest working character in the game and way more technical to master due to his infinite loop stance and lack of reach. Taki is far and away, more guilty of these crimes that Maxi is being accused of lol!

Anayo: Find some hi "caliber" (lol!) Versus Play of the game on youtube... if anything it will provide you with a clear understanding of game mechanics, options and more importantly how a match properly Flows. This should be paramount to your understanding of the game cuz regardless of opinion of the games battle system in Soul Calibur, it plays like nothing that you've been acustomed to playing (SF,VF, Tekken).

That's how the games have felt to me and every review I've read/watched said similar.

Soul Calibur has always felt like a button masher to me. I'd much rather play Virtua Fighter.

To be honest, I think the "button basher" gameplay of Soul Calibur always kind of appealed to me. At least, as I was only 12 or 13 when it came out. I never liked having to press "up, down, right, left, left, down to right swivel, A, up, B + C" with precision in order to pull off a semi-good move in fighting games :P

Yeah, I think the beauty of Soul Calibur is it's relative simplicity. It doesn't require hardcore memorization and precision to master - you can just button mash and learn a lot of the stuff on your own and maybe practice to learn some extra combos.

As much as I love Tekken - I just suck at nailing those long streams of combos.

or better yet - Maxi who practicall does combos automatically
Ughh. I despise both characters. I had a friend that always used Mitsurugi and would spam that windmill attack over and over again.

Xianghua ftw!

I stopped playing after 3, since the series lots it appeal to me. However, I do feel the earlier Soul Calibur games are definitely the high points in the series. Players who button mash are the easiest to defeat (just deflect their attacks). If you want to be good at Soul Calibur, just study your character's horizontal and vertical attacks and take note of their "quick stabs". Most importantly, master the parry; remember Soul Calibur isn't a combo-centric beat fest like what the Tekken series has become.

This is exactly how I feel about VF, I can never quite seem to get the hang of it.

I like Soul Calibur. I play as Kilik. I just like whacking everybody with my giant stick. Or sometimes I like to get a good thrust in there. So that's just how I roll.
