So I just rang the first bell, and went down into the catacombs. Good lord its brutal down there.
Yeah, you don't want to go into the Catacombs. That area is for after you've rang the second bell and then done the next big story dungeon. Look over your list of keys and see if any indicate where you want to go next.

For convenants I rolled a knight so I was in Way of the White from the get go. I then dropped that and joined the Darkmoon Blade, as it sounded like it'd be some fun PVP action. But the way the system is currently set up I ended up getting matched against people who were just sitting with high level gear and a good sin count and was getting trashed. I might try it again in a NG+. So I've dropped it and plan to snag Gravelord for the sword, then drop that and get the Daughters of Chaos (or whatever the name is) so I can make sure I snag an upcoming optional story event.

Thank you Mr Popo. I was wondering if that was the wrong place to be. Its tough to tell with this game, because everything is difficult.

You reminded me that I got a basement key, and I think I know where to check to see if it works. Luckily I got the mystery key that lets that guy out of the prison, so now I can summon him.

I'm really happy I decided to pick this up. I could never get into Elder Scrolls (I know, blasphemy), but this game hit a sweet spot for me. Exploring a huge world has never been so fun.

I think I might actually have to try Skyrim now.

This blows the piss out of Elder Scrolls. They're all boring as hell, I've tried and tried to get into them but they just all bore the tits off me, even Fallout 3 has the same effect. Demon's and Dark Souls are 100x better in every single way.

All words of truth. Blows the piss out of them is an understatement.

Yeah, but they're very different games. I'd guess you just aren't very into the style of the Elder Scrolls games.

This. These games aren't really comparable.

I suppose thats true. I just always felt that the Elder Scrolls games were trying to get me to explore this crazy world, and come across things in different orders as I explore it.

I get that from Dark Souls as well. To me they feel similar, the big difference being the difficulty. The only time I ever found Elder Scrolls difficult was when I went in the wrong direction, and then it didn't feel difficult as much as it felt impossible.

In this game, everything is difficult, I'm never sure if I'm supposed to be fighting something or not until I either give up, or end up killing it.

This is actually the first wrpg that I've ever really enjoyed. This is a wrpg, right?

They're action adventure RPGs with a strong focus on exploration and character customization. The premise of both games is exactly the same. The execution is different of course, but saying they can't be compared is a stretch. It's also interesting to note that From Software's RPGs used to be first person too.

What you're saying makes sense, but when I play these games I don't get even remotely the same vibe, so that's where I was coming from. If you want to compare Two Worlds and Oblivion, I'm with you.

Nope, its a jrpg, developed by From Software.

I haven't been around these forums much lately due to real life stuff. Super busy as of late. But I am really glad that people are playing and discussing this game.

As for me I just rang the second bell. Currently doing a half magic / half melee build. A tip for anyone struggling with blight town, you can skip pretty much all of it by heading through the Valley of Drakes (accessible through Darkroot Basin) to its rear entrance. Just inside is a key, swing back to the Valley and unlock the door to New Londo Ruins, you now have a shortcut directly from Firelink to Blight town.

From the back entrance to blight town head down the ladders and water wheel to the bottom. Then hug the left wall for a bit to find a bonfire. Hug the right wall to find the boss.
