It works!

I boot Swap Magic, swap out the disc, choose PAL, play Shinobido.

The image isn't centered, but it's entirely on screen. I have a slightly older Vizio TV - Model: Vizio-VX32L-HDTV10A

Everything is A-Ok

Thanks for all the help fellas :)
PAL to NTSC Boot Disc no longer needed
Got your PM. Though you may not have noticed it, part of the image is off screen. PAL takes up more scan line estate then NTSC. You can get the image centered with a simple conversion program. Then boot the burned disc with Swap Magic in the normal mode with a centered image. Taken a step further install in a PS2 Fat with HDAdvance/HDLoader and no more worries of swapping out a boot disc every time you want to play the game.

I think I lucked out :)

*Sorry about the small letters, I seem to have miscalculated... In red it says: Edge of Screen and in green it says: Edge of Picture... and matching lines on said edges... :D

Pics...

Whole Screen The picture looks good and square with itself

Top Left

Bottom Right

and everything else I play on it takes up the entire screen with no border

And I've seen that guide of yours, I think I mentioned it in my first post, you seem to know your stuff :) perhaps you know the answer to this:

Does this mean my TV will display a 50hz PAL signal? :?
::fingers crossed!::
:?

...is it just me, or does the "confused" face look bitterly disappointed?
No need to convert, just boot Swap Magic in PAL mode. You TV specs seems to support both NTSC and PAL. However if the PS2 is NTSC, then you will need a custom flip top or the method noise recommended.

We get horrible conversions which are typically 17.5% slower due to being 50hz instead of 60hz.

Swap Magic won't fix the Y and X axis of the image, and a 50hz title forced to run at 60hz may even play too fast - if it's already been speed fixed.

Best to go Jap IMO!
So the game is pretty buggy... when enemies are alerted the sound skips and the game stutters... load times are inconsistent, sometimes minuteS long... o and the audio skips happen at random times too like cut scenes...

Does all that sound like PAL problems or just lazy programming that would be in the NTSC-J version too?

is this exactly what speedlolita was getting at?
