WiiWare

Post by SpaceBooger »

Today is the US launch of WiiWare. What are your thoughts? Anyone going to purchase any games?

I am thinking about the online version of Dr Mario... but I am having my doubts about the pay to upgrade Final Fantasy...

For the Japanese launch, I got Star Soldier R. It was really fun for about a day or so. I really wish it had a full game inside rather than the caravan mode only. It seems like such a waste of creating it just for 2 levels...

Really digging the look of Lost Winds myself. It kinda reminds me of Kirby: Canvas Curse. For $10 it sounds great... but I'm still gonna wait for reviews.

So I bought LostWinds (after every review raved about it...) and I'm about an hour in. I have to say it is extremely fun and really gorgeous to look at. I don't know about you guys but it is really the only WiiWare title that interests me now... maybe FFCC but all that DLC sounds like crap.

Solid offerings, but keep VC options in mind...

Post by timewarpgamer »

I've delved into this a little bit at my site. But anyway, my initial impression of WiiWare is that there is a solid variety of games and the prices are comparable to what's available on the Virtual Console. In other words, the WiiWare games may be newer, but it's possible that VC titles eclipse new offerings. For instance, LostWinds sounds awesome and probably beats the crap out of most of the regular Wii games that have been released recently. However, somehow Star Soldier R is actually worse that Solider Blade. And The latter is cheaper than the former, despite it's age!!! Of course, by better I'm talking more levels and a more lengthy challenge. If you just want to compete online in terms of your score, I suppose that Solder Blade R is still the—albeit more expensive—way to go. Admittedly, I haven't played Star Soldier R yet. But there's no denying it's shortlivedness (not that that's even a word), and I CAN guarantee from personal experience that the real deal, Soldier Blade for the TG-16/PC-Engine will give you many more levels and challenges to content with for a cheaper price.
