What Do You Do For A Boost of Energy?

Post by racketboy »

On the opposite side of the sleep issue, how do you get yourself more energy during the day?
Power naps work best for me, but since I'm supposed to be at my desk at work during the day, I can't always get them when I need them.
I'm also trying to avoid heavy lunches as those can really bring me down for the rest of the day.
I try to avoid too much caffeine or sugar. I just drink a few cups of Black Tea for a little boost.
Any other ideas?

I don't drink any sort of caffeine and try to eat all that I can. I found that after breaking my borderline dependency of caffeine I am generally a lot more lively.
Don't that just look oh so tasty?

Powernaps seem to work for me. Although I always wake up feeling rough for the first minute or so.

Plus I have also developed the ability to fall asleep anywhere, anytime reguardless of how tired I am. I used to find it wierd falling asleep in public, now its part of my daily routine!
God damn I hate the internet.

Exercise for sure. There's obvious benefits to it other than increased energy too so you really can't lose.

Eat many light meals rather than a few heavy ones. I know it's not always possible due to time, but try to prepare meals ahead of time and if you do eat a heavy meal drink a boatload of water after. I mean ridiculous amounts. It really works wonders - I used to feel like shit every time I ate fast food, now if I drink 3 litres of water following a Big Mac meal I feel just peachy.

Eat ginseng. Supposedly it boosts energy. It definitely doesnt give the same sort of short lived burst as caffeine, but that's probably a good thing (no crash).

I really like getting a smoothie at Roebeks. I'm alergic to dairy, so I go with soy sorbet and anything with Acai, it's an South American super fruit with Omega-3's and tons of anti-oxidents. It really helps me out. I'd avoid Jamba juice, they add way too much sugar! It's fruit, you don't need more sugar.

I eat a mostly vegan diet, because I noticed how sluggish eating meat made me feel. My body just cannot digest it. I have to load up on protien from nuts and leafy greens, and tons of carbs. Plus I avoid soda and caffine, but i'll go with a (natural)root bear or some chai tea now and then.

A regular exersize routine really helps. I've been a bit laxz about mine lately, and I noticed a drop in energy. I need to get back on track, because it helps alot.

With all those changes I tend to have alot more energy than I used to and I've actually gained some weight. There are days when I'm just worn out, but all in all I feel pretty good.

I've been trying to find a gym nearby that I like. The one we "went to" for a while was all the way across town, so we never felt like going.
At least I have the small meals thing going for me. I'm very much a grazer. I snack all day long and rarely eat large meals. (I'm actually not very good at buffets)

Much like Mozgus said in the sleeping thing, I'd rather stay away from meds.
Vitamins, I suppose, but that's about it.

I drink a pot of coffee every day- one giant cup in the morning and two after work. I pour it into a thermos so it's still pipin' hot by the time I get home. I'm usually pretty wiped out after trying to coerce a roomful of rowdy 7-8 year olds into learning, but that afternoon jolt of caffeine gets me through.
