Huh?

All PS3 models are backwards compatible with PS1 games. Just pop in a disc and bam. Then if you hit the home button in-game you can turn on smoothing which I think works really well for most games (looks much better than the PS2's version of that). Plus all the virtual memory cards for near infinite space, I bought a little USB adapter and backed up my dozens of memory cards on the PS3, love it.

^ This

There really isn't much to configure to be honest. I would add that if the PS1 game can use the the analogue joysticks, you have to enable analogue mode from the home button menu while the game is running.

I actually never thought about that. Maybe I should get a BC PS3 after-all. My only worry is that those earlier PS3 models are more prone to technical failure like the YLOD than the new Slims. :?

Would you rather have the old models or something? The PS2 compatible ones seem harder and harder to track down as time goes, but all models including the Slims can playback PSX games.

ALWAYS remember HDMI dont mean squat if the game isent intended for it and PS1 and PS2 games look like complete ass upscaled and stretched to hell like they are on the PS3,

If you dont get a 60GB BC PS3 with the EE onboard your SOL on a few games i know my 80GB software emu PS3 has issues running GT4 as well as MGS3 (mostly at the part where you fight the flame thrower boss the FPS drops WAY hardcore).

BUT dont let the gamestop adds screw with you ether if your shopping for a BC PS3 and dont have a load to blow, buy there 4 USB port 80GB (if shopping at GS at all) model GS is a bunch of douche bags and lists the 60GB launch model as the ONLY PS3 model to have BC and has the price adjusted to like $600 f*ckin a$$ holes

any ways the reason i was posting in this thread was to point out that even if its a clone PS1 with HDMI your not going to gain HDMI quality (its like buying the wii key HDMI adapter the game has to support 1080 in order to see the difference) you will just have the same visual quality on the TV as you did with the A/V cables (or what ever the highest quality out put visuals were at that point in time) and really imho retro games dont belong on an HD TV any ways they just dont look right

my launch 60gb BC PS3 has never given me an issue....

I think a lot of the failures are from people who put the unit in a cabinet or something. When you do that the fat ps3 makes SO much noise from the fans trying to cool it. My PS3s (I have a second 40gb non BC one for use with CFW) sit out in the open up on their sides so the heat vent on the "side" faces up. They stay relatively quiet and have never errored on me.
