Your opinion is that all opinions are equal. Therefore you have to give as much credence to that opinion as to my opinion that they are not. Nobody wins and nobody loses. But since they are opposed, it's like holding a mirror up to itself.

In my view, my opinion is better, so I just win.

Flake's post has caused me to wonder if I'm on anyone's friend or foe lists.

Hmmmmm... :P

Tell the person drawing you into an argument that you aren't going to bother with them.

Add them to your 'foe' list (it blocks their posts).

I haven't yet because I'm really hoping to be able to have a sensible, if heated, discussion without Godwin's Law ruining it.

ar·gu·ment   [ahr-gyuh-muhnt] Show IPA
noun
1.
an oral disagreement; verbal opposition; contention; altercation: a violent argument.
2.
a discussion involving differing points of view; debate: They were deeply involved in an argument about inflation.
3.
a process of reasoning; series of reasons: I couldn't follow his argument.
4.
a statement, reason, or fact for or against a point: This is a strong argument in favor of her theory.
5.
an address or composition intended to convince or persuade; persuasive discourse.

All the definitions include persuasion, debating, arguing and the like. Simply saying "I don't like RTS games" isn't an argument because there's no arguing. It's simple an statement or observation.

Yes, I feel like pullling out the dictionary today.
No. What we are talking about here is #4 (since that's closest to "opinion") , which doesn't imply persuasion is intended or that there's an argument between parties going on. It simply contends that argument is a claim with stated or implied support (which is what words used for/against something is).

Well that's just your opinion isn't it?
