I am visiting again to ask you gamers what do you think of iOS now as a handheld device competing against DS and Vita(psp) ?
In early days, i thought it might be inferior to them somehow. Now I think its superior, its HD graphics with complex long games reaching size of 1gb+ , i dont think DS or Vita games reach that size am not sure. Huge storage, and u can have a choice of screen size between ipad or ipod/iphone which is a good thing.
Now I know some are against touch controls, and i dont like them either but they do work most of the time.
What is your opinion?
Still not convinced of the iOS as a handheld?
Re: Still not convinced of the iOS as a handheld?
My main issue with touch controls is that my hand blocks my view of the screen.
Selling half my NES/SNES/PS1 collection (ending Dec 1):

The main problem is the amount of good content to crap is waaaaaay out of whack on the iOS store, due to apple having practically no restrictions on there. There are good games in there, but you need hip waders to find them practically.
Current systems: Atari 2600[x2], NES(top loader), SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Saturn, Dreamcast, Playstation, PS2, PS2 slim, xbox, xbox 360, Turbografx-16, Game Boy Pocket, Game boy SP[x2], Nintendo DS[x2], Nintendo DSi, Nintendo 3DS, Game Gear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Wonderswan Color, Neo Geo MVS.

I'd be more likely to buy an iPhone or an iPad rather than a PSVita or a 3DS. The latter two do have awesome games, but I can't play games all that much, so if I have a device that does other stuff, it's better for me.
Square Enix have ported many of their RPGs to iOS, haven't they? If so, I'd have a lot to do with it.

I enjoy my ipod touch a lot but I still enjoy DSi XL. There are great games on both platforms. For the ipod, I generally look for recommendations from others by googling for "best iphone games".
The touch control can be fussy at times.

Re: Still not convinced of the iOS as a handheld?
Personally, I will never have the same kind of attachment that I would for a traditional gaming handheld. iOS games are simply disposable forms of entertainment and the fact that it is all digital only means I lose out on one of my favorite aspects of gaming, which happens to be collecting. I can't see myself collecting a bunch of apps on the iPad and then 20 years down the line hope that I can somehow obtain that file to enjoy once more. I really delight in going back 5 years to a shelf full of games from a prior generation and simply admiring the collection, art, and memories associated with those games. For me, games are so much more than a bunch of coasters, roms, etc. You lose that "magic" with iOS and Android apps.
There is no doubt that there are some really awesome and fun iOS games and believe me I have played many of them. This is coming from an owner of an iPad, Android 2.2 phone, and a Nook Color with Android 2.3.

No matter how good the platform is, if there's only garbage in it...

Heh, yeah, I've considered just getting an iTouch so that I can play some Cave goodness mobile. But, then they announced that they are going to start releasing them on the Android, so I'm glad I held off.ZenErik wrote:I'm convinced with iOS because of Cave's shmup releases on iOS. SOOOOOO GOOD!
I do still want a DS for Ketsui DL though.
