I have tried to like Donnie Darko through several viewings, but find it to be one of the most overrated films of the past ten years.

sorry, noise.

I wish I had bet money on this -- I had a very serious hunch that this was going to be yr response.

I really enjoyed Donnie Darko for it's humor and it's atmosphere when it first came out but I haven't seen it in a while.

I mean to mention -- I did not like the Director's Cut. I found that all the added exposition actually took away from the film.

I haven't seen the Director's Cut, but lots of times I don't like them because of that very reason.

Oh, and I forgot to mention, the soundtrack is awesome because it fits both the era and the mood of the film damn near perfectly.

I think the theme of when you've just woken up and can kind of remember your dream but can't keep it from slipping away is really what draws me to the movie. It did a really good job of capturing that feeling for me.

Speaking of which, I saw a real life Frank costume at a store in downtown Seattle just the other day. It wasn't as good as the one in the movie of course, but it was still awesome to see one in real life.

It's pretty funny though being that the actual Directors Cut was closer to what Richard Kelly actually intended the film to be. I think he just got lucky with the original cut.
