I'm eyeballing an atari lynx with battery cover, and HARD DRIVIN for $40, unit works (I've got to play it for a minute) Is it worth it and do you guys have any good info for a possible future lynx owner?

Sounds like a passable deal. If the guy has more Lynx games, try to bargain with him to include them, as well, but Hard Drivin' is a great game to start out with to showcase the graphical muscle on the Lynx (it did 3D before most consoles were doing 3D!). But, to be fair, the game hasn't aged very well otherwise, so the value is more dependent on your motives for buying the Lynx.

Yes the audio came out fine. I'm just wondering if $40 is a good for a lynx. the store only has the lynx and hard drivin. Fully tested it my self.

Yeah I'm with noise - I get retail prices but you can get one on ebay for the same price with a large number of games. I'd see if they would go a little lower. You're not getting a steal here by any means but if you really want it, understood.

yeah really yr only paying for the privilege of play-testing the unit first-hand and not waiting on shipping.

Does it matter that its a later model lynx the one with a bigger Dpad(Atari Lynx 2)? also on ebay I'm seeing much higher prices.... And any real info on anything from the wear and tear to aging problems? I need all the info I can get....

Thanks in advanced.

I had a lynx and gameboy back in the day.

Honestly, there are only a handful of games that are worth playing on the lynx. It was a bit of a disappointment.

The Lynx is an awesome handheld if you're a fan of arcade games, it has some excellent ports. It does have a limited library, so that's something to keep in mind, but there's been releases for it as recently as last year (that I know of anyways). Check out atariage.com for extensive information on the Lynx and its games.

As for that deal, I'd say it's not quite worth it, but it really depends on how much you want it. If that's a local deal, then that's not bad, a bit pricey, but finding one locally can be very difficult, especially the second model. Hard Drivin isn't known to be a very good game, but I'm sure it's passable. Plus most of the more common Lynx games (California Games, etc) are relatively cheap to buy. If you have the cash to spare, go for it, it's a really cool system in my opinion, and has some very impressive games for the time. Good luck!
My Want List!

Consoles: Sega Master System, NES Toploader, Genesis/32X, Sega CDX, SNES, 3DO FZ-1, Sega Saturn, Nintendo 64, Sega Dreamcast, Sony PS2, Nintendo Gamecube, Xbox Halo Edition, Wii, PS3
Handhelds: Atari Lynx, Sega Nomad, Neo Geo Pocket Color, GBC (Atomic Purple, Pokemon Edition), GBA (Pink OG, Silver SP, Spongebob SP+), DS (Phat, iXL), 3DS, PSP (1000, Go)
