Weird Gaming Associations
Weird Gaming Associations
Do you have any weird memory gaming associations? For example, whenever I smell Berry Berry Kix (which, granted, is not often) I immediately think of Sonic 3.
Re: Weird Gaming Associations
when i drink mountain dew especially in a taco bell i think of star wars (usually episode 1).
my ringtone is Magus' theme from Chrono Trigger.

The most common one for me is the smell of carrots reminding me of Hook (SNES). In turn, Hook reminds me of Thanksgiving, especially one particular stage (and especially the music). So it's a weird 3-way association. I mentioned this in the Thanks Giving thread I made two years ago (not about the carrots, just the Thanks Giving part) and actually asked if others had any gaming associations with the holiday.
When I go out for a smoke at night in the winter, if it's cold and the air is just right, it always reminds me of Symphony of the Night.
I'm sure there are others, but those two are extremely common for me.
I know why I have these associations. But do you know why you have your Berry Berry Kix association with Sonic 3?

Diet Mountain Dew's taste makes me think of cartoony 3D PS1 games like Crash Bandicoot, Croc, and Gex 2.

Not entirely sure, but I imagine I was eating Berry Berry Kix when I first got Sonic 3 back in 94 or something like that.Ziggy587 wrote:I know why I have these associations. But do you know why you have your Berry Berry Kix association with Sonic 3?

Yeah, your brain probably said, "Man, life is GOOD right now!" while you were eating your cereal in between playing Sonic 3. Or you ate a lot of Berry Berry Kix and played a lot of Sonic 3 around the same time, so the two just go hand in hand in your head.
For me, I never really ate a lot of carrots. But there was definitely that one time I paused Hook to snack of some baby carrots. I can vividly remember it, too. As for SotN, it was winter the first time I played that game. I guess in both cases, my brain just said, "life is good right now" so those connections formed.
Ah, I just thought of another one. I love autumn, I think it's my favorite season. I've always loved it, but the second time I got a NES it was in autumn. So when autumn rolls around, that nice cool breeze, it always makes me wanna play NES.

One of my good friends of many years used to keep a stash of loot in a floor board of his bedroom closet. The contents of the cubby might contain; fuses, bullets (I'm serious), fireworks, gum, some cash, loose change, Victoria's Secret mags, and more importantly life-savers?? He had just gotten the Saturn for his birthday and we would munch through those things like crack. To this day, I can't help but think of assorted flavor Life-Savers when I play Saturn.
Baked Ham reminds me of the first Resident Evil. I remember being fascinated, and a little freaked out while flipping through a gaming magazine during Thanksgiving with my older cousin. I just remember the taste of ham, cloves.....and those pictures.
Barqs rootbeer and Goldeneye. I used to chug the stuff with my brother during our Goldeneye marathons. Every now and again I buy a 2 liter and sit and play some GE all by my lonesome.
So all my associations have to do with food. I'm not surprised.
