It kinda bugs me when I go to a Chinese restaurant and see they serve "Lo Mein Noodles." Lo mein means "noodles" in Chinese. Also, I saw some Mexican-cheese flavored ruffles at Walmart recently, the flavor was "Queso Cheese."

"Lo mein" actually means "stirred noodles" in Cantonese. Noodles is just "mein," or in Mandarin, "mian."

I'm of two minds on this one. On one hand, I can understand it as marketing shorthand, so that people who don't know what "lo mein" or "queso" mean will understand what kind of thing they're buying. On the other, it's insulting to everyone's intelligence that this shit needs to be explained.
