I talked to my friend, and he said he will take a crack at it Friday, so noiseredux, looks like you will have your game this weekend!

holy crap, anthony -- you move fast! THANKS!!
WOW. That just means I get TWO new versions of Guardian Heroes this week! Will the DC one be 4 or 6 button? It has been a while since I played with BOR on the DC.

I am not sure, but BOR should support C and Z buttons, after all, they are just left and right triggers mapped to buttons right?

Anyway, I will try to keep you folks updated on when he takes a crack at it. It SHOULD work on Dreamcast, the developer had that in mind when making the game.

Many times, the developers of these games tend to forget that this engine started on Dreamcast, and don't really care about optimizing the games to run on the little white box, they make the to rum on Xbox, PSP and PC, with as much stuff going on as possible.

I got to jump on live and see how the arcade trial is, should have gone out and got a M$ points card instead of throwing down on Battlefield 3 and a 100 pack of cdr's.

Oh well, BF3 is game of the year no doubt, so its all good.

Edit: I just beat it on Saturn with Han whilst I was downloading the trial on my 360. Gonna give it a go and see how the HD sprites look to the chunky ones on Saturn.

P.S., My friend already ran into some troubles with the BOR mod. Here is what he said.
Hit a snag already. :| The PC version if in data form, no PAK file. Furthermore the author stated that it doesn't work as a PAK. I'm hoping that it's limited to the PC version and I can get a workable PAK for the DC. Needless to say, "if" I can get it working, it is probably going to take longer than I originally hoped.
So I guess it might take a bit longer than anticipated, but he will try his best.

this

The graphics are remixed so damn well! The sprites are fantastic and the textures on 3D background objects and floors are so damn nice.

Control question for those who are into getting good. I really want to use my Madcatz TE stick long term on this game but it is one button short of supporting the remixed controls. Which action do you think can be worked around in this games system? For now I have excluded backdash as I play the game without it in mind already. The other option I was thinking about moving instead might be command but it seems more important.

:(

not sure if it helps, but I believe a PSP conversion may have been done? Perhaps the work of converting to PAK was already done in that instance?

I have been using my street fighter 4 gamepad with pleasant results.

God this game is just fun. I think game developers would be well served to remember that should be priority one for any game.

I have been playing GH on an arcade stick for a couple of years now. The old button config in the Saturn version and in original mode on the 360 allows for an easy 6 button layout:

command, plane shift, magic
guard, weak attack, heavy attack

Laid out just like a 6 button Street Fighter 2 spread. The plane shift button will shift you to the back when pressed neutrally and it will shift you to the front when pressed while holding down on the stick. There is no need to keep the toward and back plane shift buttons.

The Remix mode adds all kinds of crazy shit that at first made me think a 6 button layout would not be possible. After some experimenting, I have found a pretty solid solution:

back step, plane shift, heavy attack
guard, weak attack, medium attack

Spells are no longer cast by fighting game motions + the magic button. Now they are cast by a fighting game motion + the heavy attack button. The magic button now does nothing but bring up the spell menu, effectively making it worthless if you know the proper motions for spells. I'm really used to using my ring finger to reach up and slap the "fierce" area to cast spells, so putting the heavy attack there makes perfect sense.

Command is really only necessary in story mode so it can be dropped, too. I replaced it with back dash since back dash can no longer be done by holding guard and pressing weak attack. I have no idea why it needs its own button now, but that's just the way it is.

So there you have it, a solid 6 button layout for a fighting pad or stick. :D
