I loved it, but it could have been better.
You may have felt differently had it been yr introduction to RZ as a director. For me, I expected very little and was blown away. It's still my favorite of his films to date.

I can't believe the unrated cut has still never been released!
Same here...it was my intro to him as a director and I had no idea what to expect. House is still is best work.

noiseredux wrote:well Jeepers Creepers 2 is like that. Except I think it's intentional knowing who directed it. This is really awful, but the same director made a film years before about 3 young boys who were home alone and they are terrorized by a clown. It's called Clown House. Anyway, this is where it gets really sick... in real life the director molested one or all 3 of those kids and went to prison for it. When I saw Clown House, I did not know the story behind it, but after reading about that I felt really sickened.
Whee, I have a screener promo of JC2 that I have never gotten around to watching and doubt I'll bother. Guess I'll toss it up on my trade pile next update.

Maybe I'll try to watch the cheesetacular Greenskeeper promo I have.

I saw it like 2 years ago (I even have the DVD  ) and I just kept thinking "Wow, this is as fake as a 3 dollar bill". However, it's still worth watching for the people that love controversial stuff.

I really consider this the proper sequel to the first. Freddy is back in proper form hunting people's dreams and not trying to slip into the bodies of sexually confused adolescent boys. He's not Wes Craven, but the new director seems to have successfully recaptured the confusion between the dream and the real world. Thankfully Craven returned to help write the script, so the third installment is more coherent and utilizes scare tactics similar to the first film. So no more confusing pool scenes (that one's for you, Noise). We also get a little information on Freddy's origins.

Dream Warriors, ups the ante with the nightmares, being far more elaborate than the previous installments. It's obvious they were blessed with a bigger budget. It starts off with some excellent dream scenes...

Actually, it sorta looks like she's enjoying herself.

but sort of petters out a little at the end....

Also, claymation (And I've been reading too much Cracked)

Overall though, a vast improvement over the last movie. I really think that one of the most jarring characters was the little girl on the tricycle at the beginning of the film. With one line, "This is where he takes us", you're reminded of why Kruger was burnt to a crispy critter. You might end up laughing at some of the creative kills, but this is a guy who'd steal little kids and kill them in the basement. If they hadn't turned Freddy into Mr. One-Liner the whole Nightmare franchise could have gone in a decidedly darker and more disturbing direction.

Also, while looking for a picture, I noticed that one of the things the movie seems to suffer from the most is horrible poster design. Even the overseas posters disappoint me

noiseredux wrote:NOES2 has the whole homosexual thing too. Did you see the documentary Never Sleep Again? It's funny, the director says none of that was intentional.
I just saw it, it's VERY gay, but I'm actually OK with that, I mean... how many gay horror films exist?

Once again I'll post the Cracked link. For your enjoyment, The 5 Most Unintentionally Gay Horror Movies:

Also, while looking at the DVD extras for Dream Warriors I started to wonder what other extras were on the other movies, since I don't usually pay that close attention to things like that. And lo, what do I see listed on the first films extras, right under Remastered Picture and Sound? "Never Sleep Again" - The Making of A Nightmare on Elm Street, "The House That Freddy Built: The Legacy of New Line Horror", and "Night Terrors: The Origins of Wes Craven's Nightmares". Me thinks I need to pay a little more attention to the extras (....and thank my aunt, cause I'm pretty sure she bought this for me.) Anyone wanna take a stab at what I'll be watching when I'm done with my Nightmare movie marathon?

Play 9 From Outerspace

I've seen this a half-dozen times over the years. Of course known as "the worst movie of all time," which it isn't. I've seen far worse. It's just a mess and cheap -- like most of Wood's work. But it's entertaining and at least coherent at times (haha).

To set the mood, my wife and I watched the Seinfield episode about the Chinese restaurant where they're going to go see Plan 9, and ate Chinese food before we started the movie. :)

not the same Never Sleep Again. The one I'm talking about came out last year and is like 3 hours long. It's amazing and got its own DVD release.

Take a "stab"? Scream 1-4?

Though you may wanna get to all the Fridays. Hands down my favorite horror series, even if I think other single films (Halloween, Evil Dead, etc) are better.
