No. I don't.

As far as the "tons of FPS games argument"... It's been that way for years with other genres. You had the 10 billion 8 and 16bit side scrollers. The Mario 64 ripoffs in the 32bit generation. Hell even the Space Invaders and Pac Man clones in the days of the 2600... The only generation that didn't have a prevailing genre is the last one as far as I can tell.

This generation has given rise to some of the best games ever made. In particular I love the huge indie boom. If you think this generation is all FPS games, you just need to look past the AAA titles. The issue most people seem to have when getting games this generation is not looking past the front of their nose for something.

And they usually lead to collapse. But the FPS craze started over 10 years ago and has subsequently taken over the market.

Of course, this is just my opinion, and off the top of my head. I consider these games to be some of the best games ever made (keep in mind, there have been thousands and thousands of games, this is what would probably make my top 100 of all time). There are a ton of other very entertaining games as well.

There's something for everybody this generation, you just have to look.

I don't think the nature of the games has changed - I think maybe some of us have changed.

I don't have much interest in this gen of gaming outside of some recent offerings of beloved legacy IPs. I could come up with a lot of reasons why this might be but none of them really hold water. It can't be the advent of online gaming - because there are some games that I like playing online. It can't be the overflow of FPS's because there are so many other options these days that you can never touch an FPS and still have hundreds of games to choose from.

I think that I, and maybe many of us, simply had our preferences and tolerances established a while back and we just haven't grown with the medium.

tl;dr version: I see enough people enjoying the games that I have to assume that the problems I have with games these days originate from myself.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

So we have 15 games in the past 6 years...

That's a horrible track record. And only a few of those games listed I would consider among "the best games ever."

*facepalm* :?

Maybe if I didn't have a terrible head cold, and could be bothered to go look at my entire shelf of games, I could give you a better list. It's also unreasonable to think that I've played every potentially awesome game this generation. I haven't, I'm sure Forza 4 will go up there after I spend some time with it for example, but I don't know until I try. It doesn't matter though, it's personal opinion and taste. The people here need to stop acting like games today are worse when really they aren't. As Flake said, it's the people's issue here, not the games.

Beyond that, there are TONS of good games coming out. They may not be the best in a lot of cases, but there is still a ton of variety.

Edit: I'm done, I'm sick and grumpy. Leave me alone

Or, you and flake have bad taste.

Except in very few cases, they're derivative, over-hyped, underwhelming, and generally not as good as the best in the 16 bit generation. There's a reason the previous generations' games continue to attract a younger audience and rank way up high on major "top" lists. And that reason has nothing to do with "the people here".
