Does anyone else feel the same way about current gen games?
I am having alot of trouble buying and renting current games for my ps3. I have just fighting games and cod black ops. I am trying to get into the video games with my ps3 and I just cant. Nothing wants me to say wow I need to buy this. I am always going back to my n64 or xbox. Does anyone feel the same way or am I just crazy or maybe I'm just stuck with games from the 80's 90's and 2k years up till 2005 or so. I just cant get into it anymore. Hell the only games I also have for the wii is just the games that are redone for this generation. Please tell me that other people feel the same way so I don't feel like im getting too old for video gamming lol. Thanks

I also feel that it's all about fps online and sports lately and now fighting games are comming back but when I go online it's a waste of time.

no.
EDIT: what kind of games do you like on those older systems? You're probably not aware of the right new games that would give you the fix that you're after.

Eww black ops
CoD: World At War and CoD 4 are really the only ones with a good story IMO. There's some good games, but the PC versions are usually better.
Black DSi, Pink GBC, Softmodded Wii, Softmodded Fat Ps2, Black Gamecube, Xbox, Dreamcast, Ps1 Slim, Atomic Purple GBC, Onyx GBA SP, Gears of War 3 Edition Xbox 360 Slim, PSP 3000, NES.

I used to be in the same boat until I started opening my eyes to new IPs.
Starting next week until December there's a game coming out every week that I want/need to buy. Batman Arkham City, Sonic Generations, Assassin's Creed Revelations, King of Fighters XIII and WWE '12 to name a few.
Those IPs are tailored to my interests. It wasn't always that way, though. I didn't pick up on Assassin's Creed until Brotherhood was about to be released. I had heard a lot of good things about the franchise, but I just wasn't interest... but then I played it. With all the hype building up to Brotherhood's release I went out an' rented Assassin's Creed 2 and fell in love instantly. Without hesitation, I bought Brotherhood a week later on release day.
I highly encourage gamers to play the classics and keep those old systems running, but there are a lot of good games out there for the current gen consoles (and don't get my started on PC lol, I'll be saying goodbye to RL once Diablo III releases).
Maybe watch some videos on Gametrailers, some previews/reviews could shed some light on some games that haven't been picked up on radar quite yet.

OP, do you like Zelda-type games? 3D Dot Game Heroes is perhaps my absolute favorite PS3 game. It's just amazing, and totally tailored for retro enthusiasts.
Re: Does anyone else feel the same way about current gen games?
I don't have many games for PS3 myself, and there's not a whole lot I'm interested in. So I can definitely relate to you. I'll make a few suggestions to you based on my favorites of the few games I own, and this is coming from an old school gamer.
LITTLE BIG PLANET is probably the most fun I've had with a PS3 game so far. Side scrolling platformers are probably my favorite. Cue LBP. OK, maybe it's 2.5D or whatever the hell they call it. But it's solid good fun, and it looks beautiful. Even more fun if you have people to play it with. I played a demo of the sequel, but I don't wanna buy it yet. I wanna have more fun with the first one for a while longer before I pick the second one up.
If you like FPS, I highly recommend Bioshock 1 and 2. By the time the PS3 rolled around, I got really sick with FPS. With the new CoD games coming out what seemed like every other week, I grew to almost hate them. Then I tried Bioshock. It combines many things. Like the atmosphere of a survival horror game. But it's even more unique because it's set in the 50's (or the 40's - whatever). The music, clothing, etc is from that time period. It makes the horror aspect even more creepy, and it really sets the mood. On top of that, it's not your average FPS. Aside from weapons (guns and whatnot) you can gain powers like telekinesis, fire and ice, electricity, among other odd things. It really adds a lot to what I consider a genre that got really stale. And oh yeah, it's a pretty solid FPS console experience. Much more fun than the repetitive CoD and the likes.
Star Wars The Force Unleashed was another game I enjoyed. Maybe a little short, but fun. I'd love to get the DLC, but I think the cost is a giant rip off. I think there's a second one, but I haven't played it.
GTA4 - Like the other games from the series from GTA3 on, you can play the "story" part of the game, or if you chose, run around aimlessly for hours and still have a blast.
Did you know you can download demos from PSN? That's how I found most of the above games, and they turned out to be my favorites. Of course, there were probably an equal amount of demos that turned out not liking one bit, but that's the point of a demo I guess. If you haven't already, you should definitely check out some demos.
As far as the Wii goes, I'm definitely not with you there. If you're a retro gamer and a fan of the usual suspect Nintendo games, then you should be loving the Wii.

Just to give you a heads up, although 3d dot heroes, LittleBigPlanet, and Modnation Racers are praised all the time, I tried to like the games but HATED them. I always go back playing Twilight Princess, New Super Mario Bros Wii, and Mario Kart Wii. Ninty does it best
As for FPS, I loved Blacks Ops as well and think you should try out Unreal Tournament and Resistance 2. And a FPs that made me go wow for the first time was Borderlands. Check it out
