Fixed that for you

I love that movie, but I don't really consider it a comedy.

Avengers trailer is out:

I think it looks great! I really liked the Iron Man movies and Thor, I haven't seen Cap'n America yet.

I saw Cap'n America, only a short time after seeing The Smurfs (which was so funny and cute... you'd have to have a heart of stone and have no soul to hate this).

Were you high? Cuz seriously, I never really cared for Rowan Atkinson. It just seems like all his characters are the same. I mean, make Mr Bean act like James Bond and he's Johnny English. Give him a theme park and he's Mr. Mondovarius(sic) from Scooby-Doo.

And speaking of Scooby-Doo:

* If they do a film adaptation of 13 Ghosts of Scooby-Doo, Hal Sparks as Shaggy and Geoffrey Rush or Bill Hader as Vincent Van Ghoul
* Did Freddie Prinze Jr disappear off the face of the earth after SD2: Monsters Unleashed? I say yes. Maybe we could put some action on this?

He's quite different in Blackadder. He's a sarcastic, serious type surrounded by idiots, instead of being the idiot himself. He doesn't do any funny voices or bizarre facial expressions either.

As for myself, I just watched

My favorite part was the drill sergeant sketch. Also, it's a bit weird to see Monty Python stuff with '80s music and whatnot; most of their stuff was from the '70s.

Getting started on some horror films for the month...

House on Haunted Hill (1959) – I was pleasantly surprised by the first 2/3 of this film…not only are the performances generally good but the film is excellent at playing with shadows and silence. Even though there were a few scenes wherein the “jump” moment was perfectly telegraphed I still found myself having a few nice starts while watching the film. What is unfortunate is the cheesy way that the film ends: abruptly and without any real resolution. Vincent Price’s performance alone makes it a must see for fans of his work (or the genre in general), and if you can look past some storytelling problems, the film is quite enjoyable.
Grade: 2.5/5

Dementia 13 (1963) – An earlier film by Francis Ford Coppola surrounding a haunted family with a dark past. The film was generally well shot, had some great chase scenes, an excellent score, and overall delivered as a decent horror entry from the era. The story was intriguing throughout, and there are some nice twists and turns. It is often more of a whodunit than a straightforward horror film, but I can see some of the origins of what would become the slasher subgenre originating here…
Grade: 3/5

The Legend of Hell House (1973) – Watched this on a recommendation over in noise’s horror month thread, and overall I am glad I did. The standouts here are the acting and directing, both of which are above par for the period and both of which help overcome some of the inane components of the plot. This one didn’t have many visual scares, but it did have excellent sound effects work and lighting techniques that, combined, made for an excellent atmospheric haunted house film.
Grade: 3.5/5

The Conspirator

A courtroom drama based on the true story on the trial of the people who were involved in the assassination of President Lincoln. The preview of the movie is a little misleading, it alludes to seeing the assassination against Lincoln unfold. In reality, most of the movie is focused on the trial itself. A little slow, but a good story and the ending is an emotional shocker. Not up to par as a couple of other courtroom movies, but not bad.

My picks for great courtroom movies: 12 Angry Men and Breaker Morant.
