I have decided that I would like to collect all of the 'Sega Club' games for the Genesis. This is for a number of reasons, not least of which is my obsession with all things both Sega and 16 bit. My daughter is 2 and from what I have gathered, kids are pulling up their own youtube videos and gaming with the best of them by age 3 these days. So some day soon she will be introduced to the dynamic world of the Sega Mega Drive! I would like to have these kids games ready for her.
Do we have anyone here who collects these or has collected them?
There is a UK seller who has a few of them for sale and claims that they are region locked to the Genesis. If anyone here could confirm or deny this i would appreciate it.
I have always taken it for granted that Genesis games will run on the Australian/European Mega Drive. I have several of them in my collection, in fact most Aussies with Mega Drive collections do. But the Sega Club games were released quite late in the Genesis' life and I guess they could have built region protection into the carts by then. If this is the case, I don't understand why, because if they were only released in the US, how in the hell were they protecting themselves by stopping foreigners from playing the games which they couldn't get in their region anyway!
There was a poster/colouring in which came with the game. This joker (http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll ... 0904082348) has the poster for sale with some good pics, and from that you can see what all the games were:
Wacky Worlds
The Busy World of Richard Scarry
Ecco Jr
Bonkers
Crystals Pony
The Berenstain Bears Camping Adventure
Bonkers
And these ones are supposed to be "coming soon to Genesis":
Sesame Street Counting Cafe
Barbie Vacation Adventure
Math Blaster Episode One
Mickey's Ultimate Challenge
http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2007/11/weekend-thrifti/ is another source for some information and pics.
Another aspect of collecting these is that, because they were kids games, its going to be pretty hard to find them in good condition. I'm pretty set on getting nice boxed copies. Unfortunately some only came in those wretched cardboard boxes, Ecco Jr and Wacky Worlds for instance.
I'm going to upgrade my WTB list soon with all these.
So if anyone has any info on these games, please do share.

Re: Sega Club
hey man, not sure if this helps but I'm pretty sure that if you get a Genny Game Genie that will work as a fix for the region lockout. Don't quote me, because I've never tried myself -- but look into it if you think those imported copies are a good deal.

Re: Sega Club
Played it for a while, Bonkers is okay. I have it. Its based on a 90's cartoon.
I also have Crystals Pony Tale, but I havent played it. Its part of my genesis collection.
Maybe you should try them emulated before you buy them? That way you wont be dissapointed if and when you get them.
