PAL bugginess or just the Game? Please Look
Re: PS2 Import Dillemma R&D | Mod Chip or Swap Magic??
If you're comfortable with the soldering, then yeah, a chip is the way to go. Less hassle than Swap Magic, cheaper than buying different region consoles.

I haven't yet dug up the name of the proper chip, it appears there are many. Per chance you know the one? I'll probably just look it up more thoroughly myself soon enough, but if you know it off hand, please do tell. Also, I reckon paying someone to solder it (not sure if I know anyone who would do it as a favor, nor am I comfortable doing it myself) plus the cost of the chip is not cost effective VS. Swap Magic, even if I get the Magic Switch or Fliptop Cover.

Re: PS2 Import Dillemma R&D | Mod Chip or Swap Magic??
After plenty of procrastinating and playing other games, all the pieces are in place: Sensors blocked (I used two of the "Key" parts and removed the spring and tightened the screw holding the disc brake to keep it off the disc) and I can operate the system with the disc cover open, I have the Swap Magic disc, I have the PAL Shinobido disc...
However I'm having a problem when I go to boot the game. As it attempts to boot the game the disc spins slowly (and kind of noisily) and the game doesn't boot. The PS2 displays a "No Data" screen and if I let it sit I get the red "Please insert a PS2 format disc..." screen. I even tried a NTSC game and the slow spinning and unfortunate screens still happened.
Any ideas?

that's really weird. You're sure it's not detecting that the lid is open?

Yea, I'm turning the PS2 on with the lid open and watching everything spin while Swap Magic boots, and then the crappyness

Re: PS2 Import Dillemma R&D | Mod Chip or Swap Magic??
Yeah... it asks if I want to boot it or my own program disc... then it asks which region... then the crap ensues
Edit: I seem to have found someone with a similar issue and no answers...
http://www.zeropaid.com/bbs/threads/597 ... it-to-work.
EDIT 2: Wow, holy shit.. I'm dumb. i was using the cd disc, not the dvd... it's better now... more info when I mess with it some more...
Thanks for trying
but you can't fix stupid

Re: PS2 Import Dillemma R&D | Mod Chip or Swap Magic??
for some reason I automatically thought the cd one was for games and the dvd one was for... movies... now it's inclusion makes more sense
The last attempt at resolve at the forum I linked above was this...
Signa - "The last thing I can ask is if you are using a CD based game? There weren't many, but that could cause the issues you are having. I never was able to get my CD boot disk to even boot, so if it is a CD based game, then I wouldn't expect to get this to work at all."
..got me thinkin

Re: PS2 Import Dillemma R&D | Mod Chip or Swap Magic??
It works!
I boot Swap Magic, swap out the disc, choose PAL, play Shinobido.
The image isn't centered, but it's entirely on screen. I have a slightly older Vizio TV - Model: Vizio-VX32L-HDTV10A
Everything is A-Ok
Thanks for all the help fellas
