Its not just Sony, I have a Panasonic TV that's the same way and I used to have a Sanyo like that too. Pretty sure its just there because Component is simply better than S-video even at 480i.CRTGAMER wrote: I don't get why Sony puts Component on 480i screens. I wonder if there is any improvement over SVideo on a non HD Screen.

I find Component improves color and has less bleeding than S-video. Additionally, converting a lot of retro systems from RGB to Component is the next best thing to a RGB SCART tv.

I have compared DVD test patterns swapping between s-video and component on my FS120. The difference is rather slight. It is most noticeable on colour bar test patterns. Sharpness and such seems about the same.CRTGAMER wrote:I don't get why Sony puts Component on 480i screens. I wonder if there is any improvement over SVideo on a non HD Screen.

The thing is that SD TVs immediately combine those signals into chroma/luma (same as s-video) for display on the tube anyway. S-video is essentially the "native" format for the video processor on SD sets. HD or HiScan sets are different, as they digitally process the signal first.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Well, I'd gather it's about the same difference of going from s-video to RGB. The more separation of signals the better as I understand it.CRTGAMER wrote:I don't get why Sony puts Component on 480i screens. I wonder if there is any improvement over SVideo on a non HD Screen.

Got it! Obviously this isn't it's permanent home, but it'll have to do till I find a stand. My dad was gracious enough to let me use our ottomans until then.

Congrats! It looks great and appears to be holding down that ottoman nicely.

I bought a stand today. It looks pretty awesome if you ask me.

Once my Genesis gets back from Ziggy it'll go next to the Saturn. Now the big question is what to do about that 4th spot with nothing on it...

And to contribute to this thread, I use a Sony Trinitron Wega KV-24FS100.

The TV I just got last week, and the TV stand today, so I was pretty happy putting everything up. Also, I'm way too embarrassed to show what TV I was playing on before this one.
