They are awesome. I was going to mod a lcd screen into a broken one I had and turn it into a mobile tate shump machine. But I had someone offer me $100 for it.

Damn, that would have been awesome. I'd give a testy for a mobile tate shmup machine.

Any idea what a nice working one would run me? :D (a vectrex)

 I guess the Vectrex would be the first Transportable Vertical fixed Tate style game. How about Mattel Space Alert or Missile Attack as the first portable 1977-1978. :D

Very pricey. To get one cheap keep hitting Thrift Stores and Swap Meets
That is how I acquired THREE of them over the years. I bought two at the same time at twenty bucks each at a Swap Meet, the seller didn't know the rarity. I just need the Lightpen and 3D Imager Glasses and maybe a couple of spare Vectrex Controllers.

Keep looking you never know when one might be sitting in a dusty box, cleaned out of an attic at the swap meet. 8)

Damn, thats too bad. The swap meet here is kinda bad. Basically, 3 different guys go through everything before its open, buy anything good, and then re-sell it for obscene prices.

Like, a loose copy of Mega Man X is $30-$40

Want to sell me one, CRTgamer?

Three guys screen all the sellers stuff? You mean the ones running the Swap Meet? If that is true it defeats the whole point of customers going there. I would complain and go to another Swap Meet.

Sorry none for sell here, I like having the Spares in case any ever die. Hopefully you'll spot one at a Garage Sell or maybe even Craigs List. There are some sellers out there who just might not know.

They don't run it, but they have the "video game" stalls. Basically they just rip off the sellers who happen to have gaming goods amidst their random stuff.

I'll have to drive out to another, or just end up buying one at full price.

Are they prone to breaking?

Apologies to the OP for the Derail
The Vectrex is solid, but like any console they will eventually fail. Maybe sooner then other systems since it has a built in Vector display that cannot be easily replaced. As in any system, thoroughly test before the purchase.
