I think 3 was all around my favorite, though 2 had really good stages. The finale in 4 was just insane though, damn epic. To be honest the first game was probably the toughest for me, 4 was the easiest. So yeah you'll probably have an easy time with 3-4.

I'm about halfway through Xtreme 2. First game was really awesome and so is the second, both games mix up levels and bosses of X-X2 so it's definitely interesting to play both. I am also VERY impressed with how well the remixed music has turned out, it's all really amazing and all around this just seriously feels like what X would have been if it were on the NES, the music is very much in the style of the NES games which is amazing.

After this and MMV though... what's left!?! :( ... lol. Well, might replay some of the X's if I'm still in the mood, it's been such a long time on some of those.

Well, you could always play the Battle Network or Star Force games.

@Xeogred: Your enthusiasm is infectious, dude. I can't wait to see what you think of MMV. The fact that that game languishes in obscurity is obscene.

I cleared almost the entire X series for the umpteenth time earlier this year but I still need to get through the Classic series again.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Thanks, I thought I was killing the thread turning it into my diary or something.

I was watching some LP of X6 the other day and a lot of the glaring issues came back to me. The whole Nightmare system, Japanese voices (admittedly I prefer that in JRPG's and all with actual cutscenes, but it was just awkward and lazy here), hilarious level design like there was a part where the guy couldn't see where to jump down too, so he jumped and landed on spikes, rescuing those stupid Reploids, and the randomness of the stages and effects like weather, etc. Haha, all that said I still don't remember X6 being that hard to me at all, but I guess I do kind of have those games by the balls... lol, maybe it just didn't bother me. If that was the game with the weird crystal/cyberspace like final stages though, then yeah I remember that stuff was tough.

But yeah, even though I definitely like to pretend the story ends with X5 (like Inafune wanted it too), if I go on an X marathon here I'll probably run through X6 again as well. It's like the MM7 of the X series to me, very flawed but not a "terrible" game or anything.

I probably wouldn't bother with X7 since I don't own it or want it, or X8 again since I didn't like it that much at all. , X6 isn't amazing but compared to these, yeeaaaah...

I wish I owned or had the money for Legends 2 and Tron Bonne, lol. I need to get those someday.

@CFFJR: Yeah, I'm still a tiny bit interested in the Battle Network series... but also not, since that's just the last thing I think of when I think "Megaman", haha. I'll probably play one someday though.

I heard lots of good things about X8 but I really didn't enjoy it. I never played X7 and I don't really want to.

I do very much like the Zero series though which is now conveniently on one DS cartridge. The ZX games on the DS aren't bad either. All of the Zero games are really rock solid Mega Man games though.

I didn't care a whole lot for X5 and X6 but I do have fond memories of X4.

The thing is I think X8 could have been very good but they made the game feel so disjointed. It also didn't help that the physics were completely weird - and not in a good way.

If we start talking about favorite tunes from each game that could get really fun. My fave from the original MM X are:

Palace Grounds is one of the best themes in the entire franchise. First off the level is this enormous, diagonal/vertical tower, and the the song just completely empowers you to push through and climb to victory ... "This is it, you've come this far, go forth to the final battle... keep going!" Hell yes.

As for my favorites:
[insert Megaman 1-6, X-X3 here]

What are your guys' thoughts on the X3 PSX/PC OST though? I personally can't stand it. I don't think X3's SNES OST is quite as good as the first two games, but I still love the dark, metal vibe the SNES hardware gives off, and the PSX/PC version just sounds like a horribly awkward fan arrangement to me. lol, kind of like my hate for The Wily Wars... my Protoman nostalgia shades are probably just too strong for me to accept stuff beyond the originals in a lot of cases with Megaman.
8)

Also I hope you guys have heard the classic OC Remix "Brainsick Metal", a medley for X. Probably the greatest thing to ever come out of OC Remix. The Spark Mandrill part gives me chills.
