Using an old tape draw for MD/Genesis carts
Using an old tape draw for MD/Genesis carts
I was checking out a few church Jumble sales and saw a couple of sweet looking old draw style cassette tape storage units. I thought to myself "that would be a very nice way of storing sega games if they were the same size", then I thought "nah, I won't get one, its too good to be true, and I already have crates of useless trash". So I went home and held a MD game up to a tape and I'll be damned if they're not pretty much exactly the same size. Has anyone else noticed this? Is anyone using this storage system? Let me know, because I'm going to go back and buy one, and I think its going to improve my quality of life immeasurably.

I've heard this mentioned a few times on Sega-16 as well, QuickSciFi posted a video where he shows off one he picked up:
So you should be okay, go for it!

*goes and checks*
Well damn. SMS carts are exactly the same size as a cassete tape case. That was surely planned. GEN and MD carts fit within the same dimensions as well. 32X carts are a little wider though, so aren't going to fit in a tape holder unless it is a little generous with some wiggle room side to side.

I have tried in the past with old ones from my parents home, but never had any luck, they were always took loose for the cart to be 'held in place' more importantly for me, they take up so much more room than just stacking carts in a upright shoebox.

That's awesome! Thanks for the idea. I'm sure I can find one at Salvation Army or something for a couple bucks.
