Fixing a terrible paint job

Post by opethfan »

Hi guys, in my youth I did a terrible paint job on my Dreamcast. I didn't sand prior to applying paint on the body, so the silver below by the buttons is rubbing off from my finger pressing the buttons and the black on the drive lid has the imprint of the surface I was painting on, because I was impatient and flipped it too soon.

I want to fix this. How should I go about it? I was thinking of starting by sanding down with 150 grit paper and then putting 2 layers of (this time all) black.

Any other tips?

Start with 150 grit then work your way up to around 1500grit. Your gunna need to do about 4 different sandings to get it back to a point that it's ready to repaint.

Once you've sanded it, you'll want to do heaps of very thin coats with the black while letting it dry and then sanding lightly with 1500grit sand paper in between the thin coats.

Then you'll have to seal it but that's a while off yet.
