Mine's fine with motorcycles, but God help you if you own a pickup truck and have it in your driveway. Keep in mind that this is a neighborhood where several repairmen and landscapers live, and those truck beds get actual use.

HOAs can gtfo. I'll never buy a house in a neighborhood with one. I understand the reason for them in theory, but they usually overstep their bounds to a rediculous degree. Keep your grass cut, don't let jim-bob live in his R/V in your driveway, and fix your shutters if they're falling off. Outside of that, it's my property, I'll paint my house plum crazy if I want to.

Yeesh.

Too macabre for me.

Actually, these decorations are not even scary. More goofy than anything, but that is how I feel about nearly all halloween decorations now a days.

Oh, and HOA? One of the best parts of living in the country. I have never had to deal with one. And I can piss on my front lawn and have a mortocycle and truck if I want. (If someone would tell me I couldn't have my truck, I WOULD kick their ass.)

Well, yes. We follow a pretty strict schedule, but days off of work / kids off of school can push things one way or the other.

10/1-11/1 - Halloween
11/1-12/1 - Thanksgiving / Fall / Harvest
12/1 - 1/5 - Christmas
2/1-2/15 - Valentine's
3/1-3/20 - St. Patrick's
3/20? possibly later - ??? - Easter
Break
6/15 - 7/15 - Independence / Americana
Holy shit! I didn't think people decorated for all of those. I only decorate for Halloween and Christmas. We used to do Easter somewhat with rabbits and shit but stopped like 10 years ago. We usually put the Halloween stuff up 13 days prior to Halloween (The 13 days of Halloween) and for Christmas, it's about 2 weeks before the 25th.

We (wife and I) both grew up in homes that did some decorating, and now w/young kids of our own, its sort of...expanded. Its interesting how we'll pull out a piece and we have a story that goes with it, makes it fun, but mostly its just a neat way to break up the year, have things to look forward to, kids love countdowns - and using the next coming holiday as bait is always helpful. "Hi there Sherry, Easter Bunny around? No? Oh, well, could you let him know that Aidric won't put his dishes in the sink, so maybe when he comes in 2 weeks, he should just skip past Aidric and only bring baskets for the others, ok? Thanks Sherry." "NO! Dad, dad, i'm doing it, you didn't even listen to me, I said I would do it after I cleaned my room, thats all." "Ok, son, i'll call Sherry back, thank you son."

Now, Dr. Spock might find some bad habits being built there, but my folks did it, and I haven't committed too many heinous acts, so they should be fine I think.

Here are some of the Halloween decorations we now have on the front porch at my house.

This guy is hanging over the front door:
