crack it, dual boot it, I don't care. A huge portion of GMod users are on extremely underpowered PCs by the way.devilmyarse wrote:I'm fine with Garry's Mod.

What i'm saying is this seems to be a nice alternative. Gmod was good until it went to Steam and they wanted $10 for it. It's a nice distraction for a while but no way worth any money. I refuse to pay for a mod.
What if I don't want to use Windows? I can't use steam because Valve won't port it to Linux/OSX. Why should I install an operating system for one game?
That's like saying to somebody who doesn't own a Wii to go play Mario Galaxy instead of Ratchet & Clank. When they say they don't have a Wii you just turn round and say "just steal one, Duh".

Ok...that's just insanity. I personally don't play GMod much because I have no fucking imagination. But I respect people who do and I've seen amazing things being created and utilized in the servers I've joined. GMod is worth $10. People paid much more for Team Fortress Classic and Counter Strike at retail, even when they didn't have to. Some things deserve your dollar and GMod is one of them. You can always just play v9 for free if you want to be a bitch about it, but don't insult the team. They've worked very hard, and they continue to do so. They turned a video game into a highly advanced utility used to create a wealth of entertaining comics and and videos. Plus, it still works as a game in itself, as long as you can imagine a game to play.devilmyarse wrote:What i'm saying is this seems to be a nice alternative. Why should Valve waste resources porting their empire over to an OS full of elitists who don't care either way? Linux and Mac users don't give a shit about PC gaming. If they did, they'd have Windows. What if I don't want to use Windows? I can't use steam because Valve won't port it to Linux/OSX. Why should I install an operating system for one game?
That's like me living here in USA, telling the prime minister of Canada to bring me some universal health care. If I really wanted universal health care, I'd fucking move to Canada.
I never said they should. I'm just saying I don't want to waste my time installing an operating system just because you say so.Mozgus wrote:devilmyarse wrote:What i'm saying is this seems to be a nice alternative. At least I'm using an OS that isn't plagued by millions of viruses, is functional, is value for money and doesn't suck. I paid £40 for Leopard and I can install that on up to 4 other Macs on the same network. I can install it on as many as I want theoretically as long as they don't use the same network. How much is XP? £60 for an OEM version that can be installed on one 'PC', although as soon as you upgrade your motherboard you're screwed… gonna have to buy it again. Sounds great… I'm sooo envious of PC gaming. Any game worth playing gets ported to Mac anyway. Anything that doesn't I can use Cider and now thanks to Games for Windows, most games are available on the 360. (and generally play a lot smoother, and at HD! Hello Bioshock!)
The only problem I have is how glitchy Steam runs on Windows, let alone through virtualisation.

I didn't tell you to install Windows. I told you not to complain when games dont come to your OS.devilmyarse wrote:I never said they should. I'm just saying I don't want to waste my time installing an operating system just because you say so.
First off, my machine never has viruses. At most, I pickup around a dozen harmless adware cookies. Don't tell me I have viruses. The only times I ever got a virus was when I was doing something stupid intentionally with cracks, knew the risk involved, and had nothing to lose.At least I'm using an OS that isn't plagued by millions of viruses, is functional, is value for money and doesn't suck. Second, I don't pay for Windows, and neither should any home user. Just because it's priced terribly, doesn't make it a bad product.
Your performance claims are totally false as well. Games made for Windows run best on Windows. They don't run better or more reliably on other OSs through bullshit emualtors.
Ok seriously, pull your pants up and stop shitting all over this thread. You clearly haven't touched Steam in the last 4 years. It's great now. I never have any issues with Steam. I let it load with Windows all the time. It's always on. I laugh when the 360 users complain about Xbox Live going down for days. That has never happened to Steam in all the years I've used it.The only problem I have is how glitchy Steam runs on Windows, let alone through virtualisation.
I never said performance was better on emulation. That's obviously a false claim. I'm saying most games on games for windows are also available on 360. Hence me saying there's no point in using windows. I'm quite happy with OS X and wouldn't touch Windows with a ten foot barge pole now. If I build another performance rig, i'm going to put OSx86 on it and dual boot Linux.Mozgus wrote:I didn't tell you to install Windows. The last time I tried using steam on windows was when Portal came out. Low and behold, it crashed, then it wouldn't accept my login details despite triple checking they were correct. Reboot after reboot after reboot would not get the stupid thing to work. It wasn't great when HL2 came out years ago. For it to still be as dodgy today is simply stupid. I ended up just downloading a cracked non-steam version just to play it. Just because you don't have issues with it doesn't mean anybody else does. You're probably lucky.
I'm sick of Windows and it's ancient methodology. Computers have moved on. It's time Microsoft had a reality check and updated what is nearly a 2 decade old operating system. (BTW i'm purposefully ignoring Vista, that isn't even worth being considered an operating system.)

I don't want to continue this any further. Any competent Windows user knows your opinions are wrong and fucked. Fortunately, Windows users still out-number Mac and Linux users like 8 to one last I saw the polls, so no one needs to listen to your elitist jargon.devilmyarse wrote:I never said performance was better on emulation.
