Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

India announces $35 tablet computer

Post by AznKhmerBoi »

First it was the car and now this..?
Im curious why they would want to associate modern tech product with being cheap.

I mean it wouldnt be too bad if it perform just a tad off from the hiigh end ones, but 35bucks i highly doubt it would be worth it.

The computer, called Aakash, or "sky" in Hindi, is the latest in a series of "world's cheapest" innovations in India that include a 100,000 rupee ($2,040) compact Nano car, a 750 rupee ($15) water purifier and $2,000 open-heart surgery.

Getting a discounted or advertised as super cheap open-heart surgery seems like a rather bad idea.

^ definilty very very risky.

I dont know if anybody else noticed but those screen looks pretty cheap or just a bad picture. Its understandable that they want their products to available to the masses , but having it price that much and undoubtly inferior products to even the mid level products..... Doesnt this kinda take away pride.

Personally if i want people to take India serious and the next high end tech product producer i would definitly make it on par if not better than the current.

Actually, hardware and gaming industry in India is fairly good, hell, I got Red Faction Armageddon and F.3.A.R. for 40 bucks with shipping.

And they got The Lost, though it was later renamed and released over here.

Also, does anyone else predict India surpassing China in the tech field?

What's The Lost?

And yes, India is a very strong country in general, I wouldn't be surprised if in less than 10 years most tech stuff came from India.

I highly doubt this will be marketed towards Americans or any other first-world nation. It has potential for the enormous amount of people that benefit from such a device but don't have the means to afford the kind of tablets we're comparing it to.

The $100 Android IDEOS phone has been popular in Kenya, a country with a per capita income of $1200. The phone is terribly outdated by our standards, with an even worse battery life, but it still beats the alternative of nothing. If they can make a $35 tablet that can be useful to someone, more power to them.

As for more details, the $35 price point is for students. It will be sold in shops for $60. 660 mhz processor.
