I agree with this unfortunately. I see myself buying less and less new games every year because of this nonsense. Eventually I think I'll be a purely retro gamer.
i see more reasons to mod a console and not play online!

Never understood why they didn't make a home console out of the Ringwide or Ringedge...

Now wait a minute. You mean Dreamcast 2 is a portable Ringwide?... lol

In 5 years, modern gaming will be download only, require constant online connections to play, and you will have no ownership, control or rights over any of it. There will be DLC up the ass, and also advertisements all over the place. The only big gaming company remotely decent will be Nintendo, but they will be struggling to make money. I will be playing retro games on physical media and completely pass on everything modern.

In 10 years, gaming will still be online only download games, but the business model will have switched mostly to a "pay to win" format. Games will be "free" or very cheap initially, but you will be encouraged to spend real money for in-game time savers, boosts and other various advantages. Thanks to games being "free", they can justify having even more advertising in them. Nintendo has gone out of business. I will be playing retro games on physical media and completely pass on everything modern.

Wow, my predictions are fucking disgusting. I really hope I am wrong about this. -_-;

I hope not.

5 years from now, at least one of the major players in the console wars will have moved to cloud-based games. That will be the console I don't buy.

Either the 3DS will overcome it's issues ala the DS and curbstomp the Vita like the PSP, or the 3DS will limp along its entire lifespan like the GCN and the Vita will be the first portable to beat Nintendo. It's a coin toss at the moment.

I think the Wii U will be successful, but not as successful as the Wii. It will have more appeal to core gamers than the Wii did.

The Xbox 720 will be even more multiplayer focused than the 360, and will be uber popular among fratboy gamers who love big obnoxious explosions, boobs, beer, football, parties, and Facebook.

The PS4 will just continue on in the stye of the PS3, I don't see Sony changing much over the years. Probably 2nd place sales-wise in the 8th gen.

Facebook (casual) gaming ala Zynga will have collapsed as people get bored of the whole thing and look for the next new hotness. It won't be completely dead, just not huge like it is today.

As for retro-gaming, things wil be the same, yet different. Just like '70s nostagia came and went, '80s nostalgia will too and '90s nostalgia will be in full force. NES and 2600 prices will come down, and SNES and Genesis prices will rise as they return to mainstream consciousness. You'll see hip 16-year-olds walking around Target wearing T-shirts with the Genesis logo on it. So basically, retro gaming will be in the same state it's in now, just the names will have changed. Buy your 4th generation stuff now, it's only going to get more expensive from here on out.

10 years from now, one of the major players of today will be gone. I predict Nintendo, although it could really be any of them. A new third player will arise, either made by Apple or some random Asian tech company, like Samsung.

Two of the major players will be entirely cloud-based, and one will cater to us dorks who want to own stuff physically.

A wild prediction that may very well be totally bonkers: all the consoles will be portable devices that do everything, sort of like a more featured iPad. It'll be where we watch our movies, browse the internet, and play real console-style games. An all-in-one device that will even replace desktops. I don't want this to happen, BTW.

One again, retro gaming will be the same with different names. The T-shirts will now have the N logo of the N64 days on them. Retro gaming in general will be bigger, as many people will disapprove of the direction modern gaming has taken, so prices for all generations except the then-current one will be higher than they are now.

You're wrong. I heard that Segata Sanshiro battled the forces of Malebolgia for the return of his soul. Then took the head of the President of Sony and brought them to the feet of Sega Sammy demanding the return of Yu Suzuki and the birth of Sega Saturn 2!

...which of course will run on Sega RingEdge technology, duh. It will also have motion controls, just because everyone else does.
