LOL. I game in the 4'x7' space that is the laundry closet in my apartment unit. I think it's impossible to make that look grown up. It's a gaming pod and I can close the door and forget about it.

I think using shelves like these would be very adult and modern-looking.

The problem with glass shelves like that is it makes it really hard to hide wires.

You could drill holes in the back left or right support column and run the wires that way. It would be best to run female versions of the cables and leave your actual cables cable tied on the shelf behind the console.

nice, i like the use of shelves, and that square piece of furniture on the right of the tv, is that ikea?

Another issue is that I do have random stuff I guess. The hardest thing to replace will be the tv stand thing, I just got a 150 pound sony wega crt (w/ hdmi). Modern tv stands can't handle the weight. I'm looking for the original tv stand that was designed for it, but no luck it's a KV-30HS420

Also, will the tv being silverish.. it won't completely match with the furniture. I think I once saw one room that was in a basement, was really bright white, and looked really clean.

Has anyone used stereo cabinets to store systems? thoughts on how that would look?

I found this, but it doesn't look as "cool" as I initially thought. Looks old.

I found a really nice game cabinet, but does seem expensive for it's size 15.75"L x 27"W x 44"H. Best I could get it for was 225 w/ free shipping no tax

Everyone here in this thread have some very valid opinions on the topic. To me its true - part of you (the kid part) wants ALL your great collections on display - games/consoles/boxes/toys/action figures/sound system etc. and part of you realises you are an adult and you would like to keep a clean uncluttered living room.

If i had my own big place - i would have a standard loungeroom and dedicated games room which can be as cluttered and nerdy as you like. I however, only have a one bedroom apartment as i live in Dubai where places are very expensive to rent.

One thing that will make ANY games room/area look messy are wires. Loads and loads of wires and we have LOTS of them. Throw in a rock band set and you are even more screwed. Unless hte house you have built is made with gaming in mind, you are going to have exposed wires. my rear speaker wires are taped down and run under the couches but behind my set up there is not much you can do.

I think one thing that is GREAT = floating shelves.

you can see here i have a lot of things but this 4 way window shelf and floating shelves (top left) keep a lot of it out of harms way

this little thing allows me to run my cables through.

I chose my loungeroom to be my living and gaming room so its always neet but its confortable. i have a good A/V set up so its a nice place to hang out. All my toys and that are in my bedroom - same as books and my other collectables.

Ignore the fact that i have replaced the art with posters - but lighting helps too. i dont like bright garish lights and i dont use the lights that came with the house - i prefer nicer lighting. in the right cnr u can see my Tisio lamp and another standing cabinet i use to display my collectables (closed and sealed)

Shot of floating shelves before i put more things on them..

sounds like you guys have the luxury of having a house already, my wife and I have an apartment and she let me have the extra room for my work/game room (I'm a very lucky guy).

I bet that option will be gone by the time we have a kid, but hopefully we'll have a home by then :D. I bet I won't have time to play as much anyways... but I plan on saving everything and taking back out once the kids are older.
