GBA space invaders: one-cart multiplayer on gameboy Player?

Maybe this is the wrong forum for this, but wasnt sure where else to go.
Is there anyone whose been able to run the one cart multiplayer with a GBA and a Gameboy Player? Id like to try out the collaborative and competitive modes.
I know the link is working since its working on another game, so i thought it was really odd that it couldnt link on this cart. Its says no "GBA link cable detected".
I guess id like to know if there are issues with linking with the gameboy player...if theres info or a better place to discuss this on the net please let me know...

Hmm, is it an official Nintendo cable? Some games are known to be finicky with 3rd party cables.
