Question about Saturn memory cards

Post by goaferboy »

Do the Saturn memory cards run on batteries like the internal memory? The reason I ask is that my internal memory battery died ages ago and I want to get a card. But if its going to die like the internal battery, I may as well just get a battery.

Also, are they region locked or can a NTSC card work on a PAL Saturn?

Cheers guys.

I would recomend changing the battery in the System reguardless. It's a 3 dollar battery you can get at radio shack (or racket sells them) and it will only take you a minute to put in. This was you can save a few things and not have the time date pop up everytime you turn it on.

I have an Interact memory card that allows direct save, so you save during gameplay. But these can really damage the cart slot, so be careful about pulling it out and putting it in.

My Saturn is not modded so I usualy use an Action Replay 4 in 1. It allows you to play imports, has back up memory, has some cheats, and even acts a a 4mb-2mb ram for capcom(and some snk) fighters. This way you save to the internal memeory and transfer to back up if it gets full. It's also much more gentle on the card slot. I'm pretty sure it's region free because it has cheap for PAL and japanese games. Not sure about the interact one.

I'm pretty sure they all have batteries, but they do recharge as long as play them fairly often. They only go dead when you let them sit for long periods of time or the batteries get old an cant hold a charge.

hope that helps.

Is the Saturns battery rechargeable then? I didn't think it was. I would much rather use something permenant like flash memory than something that will wipe my saves if I don't turn it on once in a while. I was gutted when I lost my saves the first time.

I've found the official memory card cheap enough so I may give that a whirl. It may be the more expensive option, but at least it adds another official peripheral to the collection I guess.

the memory card will eventually erase, you need to use it every once in a awhile.
