Playing on MAME myself.
I haven't played this in a long time (and then I mostly played the Genesis version)

I'm really enjoying this. I'm a big Street Fighter fan and this has been a wonderful change of pace.

It's really amazing how powerful the Neo Geo hardware was back then. And this seems to be the first fighter where SNK really found their groove. I know the games have their fans, but I was never terribly impressed with the early Fatal Fury or Art of Fighting games and World Heroes felt like a cheap SF rip-off.

Samurai Shodown really branched out and avoided feeling too much like Street Fighter. And as I mentioned in the character thread, the game also has a great cast that has variety in terms of both moves and personality -- especially impressive for a first installment.

I haven't mastered any characters yet as I'm still in the exploring mode. Soon I may practice some moves of a character or two and try to improve my skills a bit.

One of the things that has always attracted me to this title as well as Soul Calibur is the historical setting, especially considering its historical cast. Hanzo, Ukyo, Haohmaru, Jubei, Amakusa...all based entirely on actual people. Now some of the characters have issues in terms of realism, Tam Tam being the worst, but seeing things like the French Revolution appear in Charlotte's ending...good job, SNK.

Ok, so I've tried and I'm completly failing to get any roms to load in mame osx. I put it in my rom folder and open it from the MAME menu and I get to 88% and then it errors. Maybe the ROMs are missing files. Where can I find a good rom for samurai showdown?

Dude, i really know nothing about emulation.
I don't think I have it. It would be in the rom folder correct?
Anyone know where I can download it? I've searched and I keep getting dead links.

I tried the neo4all emulated version on the dreamcast but the controls were way too loose. It wasn't much fun at all. I'm now playing on kawaks and it's a zillion times better. I'm not crazy about the blood on the arcade rom though. I guess I just prefer my video game violence to be more cartoony.

Probably eventually -- but considering the similarities, it won't be anytime soon.
