How demanding are you with games?

As in, do you play what you consider average titles or only stick to the best of the best? What's your baseline?

I barely play anything. Really, the competition is too stiff.

To play something it must be either on a portable or able to beat Beatmania, OpenTTD, Team Fortress 2 and a couple of arcade games before I can give it a chance. And they are not only really great games, they are also my favourite games so it's hard.

What about you?

I'll play anything that's either great, or has some unique thing about it that attracts me. No sports games, MMOs, realistic racing games, simulators, shmups, fighters, or modern JRPGs. I'll play most of everything else.

I'll try anything at least once unless it's a modern licensed sports game, army man/space marine shooter, MMORPG, "edgy" American game (Rockstar type stuff), or obvious shovelware.

I generally look for great games, but can thoroughly enjoy mediocre ones (at least for a while), and sometimes enjoy those that fall into the "so bad it's good" category. The quality of games in my personal collection is all over the place, really.

If i hear enough good things about a game I'll try it at least once. Don't really make exceptions. I have my preferences genre-wise and whatnot, sure but yeah.

Too subjective of a question to answer. I'll just say I play games I like and will try any game for funsies.

Interesting topic. I've been playing less and less games as my interest in the video game world has wavered in recent years (and my interest in board games has risen, accordingly), so I rarely give much time of day to anything but shoot 'em ups and rhythm games (kudos for IIDX - I got a ASC recently) and a scattering of other arcade or arcade-inspired games.

Still, over the years before my gaming obsession started to waver, I amassed somewhere near seven hundred physical games, which was supposed to amount to some of the best and brightest of each console. One day perhaps I'll do video reviews as I weed through them and I'll have a better answer to your question.

I'll usually give a game 30 minutes to capture me, less if it really annoys me. I'm not too demanding, though. I have handfuls of favorites, but I don't like monotony - I love trying something new!

My interest waxes and wanes. Sometimes I am obsessed and I'll play whatever game I'm into exclusively for a long time. There have also been times in my life where I haven't played for months.

What I play most consistently is arcade type games because of the quick pick up and play nature of them. I love shmups and fighters / beat 'em ups. However, I also play a fair amount of RPG (both western and jrpg) and action-whatever games. It really just depends on my mood. There are too many amazing games for me to limit myself. I like to try everything and see what makes an impression.

Hah! crux was taken. (See: Kruks, my Xbox Live and PSN name.) I keep running into people from various video game sites there. I'll put my footprint on VGG some day in the near future since I have a metric ton of uploads to contribute (see above reference to 700 games). I spend most of my time on the BGG end of things though.
