Indievania and Desura: like Steam for indie games and mods

Post by J T »

I just found out about this service and thought I'd post about it here:
http://www.desura.com/

Not that Steam isn't already a great place for indie games, but this place has a wider selection of indie titles and mods.

LOL I was thinking at first that the prices were outrageous until I saw that it changes to local currency not USD.
Thanks everyone...

This is another service. They are DRM free and somehow give 100% of the money to the developers. I don't know how they manage that last part.

The prices are still outrageous. Main reason why Desura hasn't and I think won't take off.

IndieCity has to take notes on what not to do from these guys.

Ive had Desura installed for a while now, It looks and functions well but im getting a bit miffed with all these services on my pc.At the moment im running steam, origin and desura so far.
Collecting indie games on different services i can see more services being added. The beauty of the games off desura is, I only need to keep the client installed but still run the game thru say steam.Same as origin so i generally forget i have so many.(until i have to clean up my hdd that is!)
Im sure i read another indie game service is coming out soon,i mean in one way it is good for the indies as they have more avenues, But for me its another install and another service i need.

Here's a report on Indievania:

I'm impressed. Indivania is a service brought to you by the guys that made the game Capsized. They give 100% of the sales to the game developers, everything is DRM free, and they give developers control over setting prices. They pay to keep the site running by asking for donations that you can offer to them at checkout. Other services usually take a 30% cut. If you want your money to go towards the guys that make the games and you don't want DRM, this may be the new way to go.
