Punisher can't even finish the job with crappy villains like Jigsaw and Bonebreaker (half-man half-tank dude). Why would he do any better against villains that are leagues ahead of them?
Marvel never lets him kill anyone outside of gangsters. And he did eventually kill jigsaw. But marvel universe punisher is never much of a read outside of some of his 80s books.
Punisher as written by Garth Ennis would roll through the likes of Joker and Two Face. He wouldn't bother with Catwoman and the mere criminal characters.
Plus none of those villains ever expect Batman to just shoot them, hell most of them plan their moves around the fact he wont do the job that needs to be done.
Ennis once said the punisher should never face someone more than twice. By the second encounter he either kills them or they kill him.
I think that Punisher you describe could make for a fun read. Batman is my favorite character in all of comics, but there are times when I do get annoyed by his no kill policy. Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to see any of his cool rogues gallery dead and buried. However, from a purely ethical standpoint it bugs me sometimes when he doesn't kill Joker knowing damn well that Joker WILL kill again. That would weight on my conscious personally. Given everything Joker has done, Batman's reasoning for not wanting to kill him in the Under the Red Hood movie seemed very weak to me. I understood it, but Jason Todd really had the moral high ground I thought.
I finished Batgirl # 1 today. There were some odd things in the story that bugged me a little, but I liked it overall. It's nice to see Barbara back on her feet again as she's the "classic" Batgirl to me. I think the book did a good job establishing who she is for new readers while tackling her current problems in becoming Batgirl again. It had a bit of a Batman Year One feel to it and I liked that we saw some vulnerability from her in this story. Easier to relate to flawed characters

What was the story reason for it?
Something called Flashpoint. That's all I know. I think Barry Allen played a big role in the story
Something interesting that is going on with the reboot is that there is a hooded woman who appears in the background of every issue
Also, while some things have been changed in this continuity and some characters seem a bit different, it seems that a lot of stuff from the original continuity still happened, which I'm actually happy about. They're not completely changing everything

From what i can gleem from the reviews and articles is that in some ways its a complete reboot but in others they cherry picked the continuity they wanted. Green Lantern and Batman seem to be the ones this applies too the most.
Superman supposedly changes a lot due to current legal issues.
Flash went back in time and changed the future...some things completely changed some only slightly (see batman). The wildstorm and vertigo worlds merged with the DCU.

Adding wildstorm and vertigo to the DCU is probably the worst part of this.
I don't want Preacher as part of that universe.
I want it nice and separate so no one gets any ideas about screwing it up.
As for wildstorm, that should have just stayed dead.

No they didn't merge Vertigo with the DC universe. Only those Vertigo characters who have appeared in the DC universe before are part of its continuity now
Fables still exists in its own universe as do other Vertigo stories.

They always went back and forth on that when Static got popular, and I remember they did a two parter about the entire universe a while back, but I don't recall how that concluded.
I know Static is part of the reboot, so I'm assuming they're all part of greater DC now. Have any other Milestone characters appeared?
