I ordered some stuff off eBay about a month ago, and have received none of it. So after about three weeks, I send a notice via eBay. Nothing. After a few more days, I send an e-mail to the address given. Nothing again. So now I've got a dispute I've opened. Now the seller apparently has been around a long time and does a lot of business, judging from the 100,000+ feedback or so, and I recently ordered another item from them which I got quickly and in great condition. So my question is, will they likely feel bad blood for me because I opened the dispute? I really want the item and I've stated in the message to them that I figure it's probably just an issue with the mail company or a misplaced order and that I'm a fairly reasonable guy. Have any of you guys opened disputes, and how do these usually go?
By the way, the item was a type 2 Sega Genesis, with controller, chords, and a game. Of course I want it.

Just opening one isn't a big deal.
I only get a little ticked when people do it to me without contacting me first.
Assuming a few days have passed since you sent an email, I don't see anything wrong with it.

I've had to open 2 in my 10 years of using ebay. The first was a long time ago, but when I purchased the item I saw it coming. It was only over 5 bucks and really I looked at it as: "the price is worth the risk". Oh noes I was out 5 bucks plus 2 dollars shipping, guess I can't buy my cigs that day.
The other pissed me off... I purchased a rather expensive device off of a dealer who imported from Japan. It was a product that required SCART and the guy was like, "blaw blaw, your in America". I was like, "yeah I know, I'm not an idiot I know how to plug it in and already have the AC adapter."
So I got the device and the thing didn't work. Well it worked, but not well. Any video I passed through it became distorted, the images was shifted to the right cutting off a large chunk of it, a green line was implanted down the left side of the screen, and the tint/brightness settings were pushed through the roof.
Worst was the pins on it were not in the correct order (didn't match either version of SCART available in Europe and Asia). So I messaged the guy and he said "you just stupid American, you don't know what you're doing". I emailed him back with pictures and said "no, I think this is obvious"...
"your not getting picture cause America doesn't use SCART"...
"K, then why is there PICTURE in my photograph?"
"oh, that normal"
"NORMAL? the picture is contorted, wavy and messed up... this is not SCART... I've used it before and this is NOT it."
"then return if, I give refund... you pay shipping."
...
Returned it, but the dispute closed during the shipping time... and I never saw my money.
Moral, make sure you settle your dispute before the time limit ends... I think its like 20 days.

Regarding eBay purchases, one has up to 45 days from the day of purchase to open a dispute with PayPal, and then up to 20 days thereafter to escalate the dispute. If the shipping was done via standard mail where delivery confirmation cannot be determined, PayPal would then for the most part tend to find in the buyers favour and grant a full refund.
