I own the snes version and it's pretty fun. I mean, clearly it has nothing on a neo-geo or arcade dealie, but for what it is, it is a very functional 2d fighter typical of the snes.
Also after reading how the site describes the snes version... they are pretty wrong. Earthquake is atleast twice the size of Nakoruru. The sprites are not that small.

I haven't played the SNES version for a while...but I don't remember Eathquake being all smashed either. Maybe when it zooms out? I like the Genesis version better, except the exclusion of Earthquake.

Is anyone rocking the 3DO version? Thats probably the best next to the Neo. My friend had one in jr. high and we used to play it all the time, it seemed pretty damn close. After being at this house I'd go home and play my genesis version and just put it down after 5 minutes and I'd ask my mom to take me to the arcade!

SNES version and only the SNES version. Bought it for about five bucks before Rhino was bought out by Gamestop several years ago. So apparently I learned to play on the crappiest one. Either way, I still love the title.

I just finished playing the Neo Geo Pocket version through emulation. I gotta say that it cannot even be considered a port, because there are some characters omitted, some new characters that never appeared on the console/arcade series, different moves, different options, etc. The graphics are pretty nice for a b/w console, the sprites are also of the SD fashion but look far better then on the GB version, but the animation lacks the fluidity, it doesn't play that well. The worst "port" so far.

^ it's in that torrent as "samurai spirits" (the japanese version) and is the neo cd version. i guess that means better quality audio than even the arcade version, right? i think the cart version might also be playable using that emulator, and would theoretically be the best home console choice (aside from the original hardware, of course)

Yes and as I mentioned in the main SS discussion thread I thought the controls were really loose. It looks and sounds great though. I didn't notice any sort of slowdown either. Just kind of hard to manage with the DC controller or something. Check it out and weigh in with a second opinion.

I play it on my Neo-Geo 2 slot consolized.

As for SS - whoever said the SNES version is terrible is absolutely correct. I used to play that a lot when I was younger, then I tried the arcade/neogeo and found out it's like a completely different game.

BTW, this together retro idea is really awesome. I wish I had been around from conception (this new job is killin me O.o). I can't wait to see what the next game is going to be and get playing!

The dreamcast emulaters I've played for Neo Geo are ok, but the controls seem out of wack, plus I got some bad slowdown here and there.
I'm using Mame OS X, and it now has better controller support. I can't tell much difference between this and the new Neo Geo Arcade Classics that just came out on ps2. It looks awesome on my iMac screen.

oh good never played that one , and now have a sega cd just in time for it. Been playing samurai showdown on the psp with snk arcade vol1, so far the comp is beating me up and can't get past the second fight. I suck at fighters normally and more with the psp. On its own this psp compilation is great has a lot of value. Got to play some metal slug, king of fighters 94, art of fighting and other classic neo geo stuff. The only thing I hate is you have to unlock the move list for samurai showdown how lame is that, I didn't have time to get the move list off the net and been guessing the moves and when I remember to get it I'm usually on the road playing.

If I have spare time will try the 3DO, genesis and neo geo pocket versions and maybe boot up some newer versions on saturn and ps2 just to compare its progress in controls, graphics and all.
Consoles: NES, Famicom, SNES, GC, GB DMG, GB Pocket, GBC, GBA, DSI XL, N64, VBoy, NDS, 3DSXL, Wii, SMS, GEN+CD+32X, GG, SAT, DC, WS, WS Color, NGPC, XBOX, 360, PS1, PSone, PS2, PSP, PS3, 3DO, CD-I, NGCD, Actionmax, TG16+CD, TE, PCE-DUO, Odyssey2, Playdia, 2600, Lynx & JAG.
