vlame, would it be be possible for me to mail you that system for repairs? That is, if you have the know-how to fix such problems.
might be cheaper to buy a new xbox than ship it from CAN to Cali and back plus my fee. as of right now there is not much i can do if you don't have the dash board files. all you need to do is build a new hard drive with a pc that has ide wiring.

Basically it comes down to this. Error 16 has to do with not finding the menu setting with which you can set the clock of the hdd. This happens to a lot of people that erase their hdd (original/upgraded) or MS dashboard files and after that they don't immediatly install the hdd but leave the xbox without power longer than 5 hours.

Just like zerexerez posted
Very easy to fix.
I'm sure vlame will be able to fix it.

That sounds about right. So then what do I need to do to fix this? Please help if you can.

NOTE ON ERROR 16: Try to disconnect IDE cable from xbox hdd just before it goes to error 16. You can also try to boot up xbox with an original game inside the dvd drive to see if microsoft logo shows up. Also you can do hotswap with IDE cable disconnected from xbox's dvd drive.

If you have a backup of the original eeprom on PC, you can build a new hdd by using xboxhdm.
simply unplug the cdrom drive from the ide cable, and boot the xbox normally, Instead of an error 16, you get an error 11, saying DVD drive not found. Interestingly, when you get an error 11, THE HARD DRIVE IS UNLOCKED BY DEFAULT!!! Now you can do the hot-swap method to read the hard drive on a computer. I downloaded xboxhdm and followed the instructions, after downloading the default dashboard files from another site. Worked like a dream. Now the xbox is exactly as it was when I took it out of the box.
you will need the gall to hot swap and you need the default dash files and xboxhdm.
