Any love for Hexen on here?

Post by Curlypaul »

My N64 version arrived in the post today, and its pretty cool. I like how (so far) the emphasis is in using your fists rather than shooting, it changes the way the game plays quite a bit. Love the atmospheric music and level design.

Def think that this one should get more attention

Have it for Saturn and think it's really cool. It's like melee Doom. I always thought it was a shame it was overshadowed by id's other games.

Yeah it was really, I remember a big fuss being made of Exhumed(Power Slave), DOOM and Duke Nukem at the time and Hexen was totally forgotten about.

I was surprised how well the controls work with a single stick and no c-buttons. I love the way that wall says "Greetings Mortal.. Are you ready to die!!" Fantastic

I love Hexen, but I don't like it as much as some of Raven's newer stuff (Quake 4, Wolfenstein 2009 etc)

Hexen Rocks!
I never could get much past the 3rd or 4th level though. Or maybe I just got fed up with it's difficulty at that point or something.

The N64 has co-op too, which is a nice touch.

There's also some cool mods for it too (just like there is for Doom), if you ever care to play it on PC. One of them (forget which) makes it similar to an Elder Scrolls game.
There's also a 3D model graphical update out there, but it doesn't play right on my PC.
...just another lost soul...

Oh. I haven't played Id's Hexen, but I have played the Heretic ShareWare and liked it.

I've only played a brief amount after it went on Steam sale. Just enough to make sure I had it configured right for the Doomsday engine.

Hexen II on Glide. Good game, but never bothered with Heretic/Hexen/Heretic 2.

I couldn't really get into Heretic at all, which just gave me cravings for the superior Doom. But Hexen actually looks different enough that it could be its own thing, so I've definitely been meaning to check it out for awhile now.

Ah, I'm waxing nostalgic or the mid to late '90s FPS PC eruption. Quake, Hexen, Thief, Doom (of course), Duke - man we used to play these on T1 servers in college all the time.
