Psychonauts for free.

Post by J T »

Psychonauts is the very definition of a hidden gem. It sold poorly and was missed by hardcore gamers and the general public alike. If you are one of the people that missed out on it, you might want to try it out by registering for the free account at Gametap. You can play psychonauts and a host of other games on your PC for free.

I just signed up for the free account but I can't play Psychonauts since I have a 64-bit system. Thanks for posting the link though! Psychonauts is awesome... I'm sure it will get some love if Brutal Legend does well.

you should really do yourself the favor.

Just in case you are hesitating because of all the hype, it isn't something you have to be in the mood for or ready to soak in like an epic game. It is just well designed smart creative fun all the way through. When you crash at the end of the day and just want to play a mindless fun game instead of an epic masterpiece, you can still pop it in and get that same experience.

I started playing this recently. I've reached just before the Milkman level and I have to say I'm kind of disappointed. I honestly find most of the game up to this point to be fairly dull in both story and gameplay. It's certainly different and I feel the level design is well constructed but for whatever reason, it's not much fun to play and often feels like you're just going through the motions. The boss battles do require some thinking in order to beat which is good but again they aren't really that entertaining. It does control well (I'm playing it with a ps2 gamepad) although the camera can be very troublesome at rather inconvenient times.

However, it is free to play for now and I don't think it's a terrible game but more of an average 3d platformer and not the A game that so many reviews seem to make it out to be. Personally I had a lot more fun with the Sly Cooper games.

Apparently there's a huge Steam update but I have no idea what it adds to the table. I installed the 5-disc release, patched it to run on Seven and all ready to play but this update has piqued my interest. Anyone got this from Steam?

Mine auto-updated today. I suspect that they fixed things like the need for fan patches for 64-bit (I clicked it and it started up with no tweaking). According to the various reports, it adds in cloud saves, Steam achievements, and tweaks the Meat Circus section. They also have a Mac port on Steam now, which is Steam Play enabled - meaning if you already have the game, you can install it on Macs now too at no extra cost.
