...this. Its a mound septic system, which essentially is a $2,000 tank/pipe system and $17K and 90' run of dirt / sand / gravel (and the trucks and manpower to move it).
So why did you get a new system? Did the old one fail?

Yeah, depending on the design, an average septic system in Mass go for around $20-$25K. In New Hampshire, my brother-in-law just put a new system in for under $5K. Not sure why it's so expensive in Mass.
Current system was a small in-ground tank w/only one pipe into the drain field (the woods :/ ), it was going to keep backing up or need constant pumping (3x per year at $150...plus the constant risk of back up). Since we are predominantly clay soil, per code, all new systems must be mounds, 15-20' long mound per person in the house, so ours is a 90' long mound, 6' high (its designed into a natural slope on our property, so will blend somewhat w/the tree line). The tank system itself is like $2200, plus some more for piping and electrical, but 4/5 of the cost is the mound itself (which drains much much better than clay of course).

We had a back up last spring and ruined so much stuff, we decided to not try and limp the old system along and just do what needed to be done eventually - we plan on being here a long time, so makes sense to do it sooner than later.

Not necessarily. My town is suburban and although we do have a sewer system, the majority of the town is on septic.

A functioning septic system is actually better for the environment because it recharges the underground water system rather than dumping it into the river or ocean.

You do need to follow common sense with a septic system such as not dumping hazardous materials down the toilet and not using a garbage disposal (compost instead!). This should be true for sewers as well.

Smile: It's raining outside, and I like the rain.

Ticked: I ate shit on my new wiper blades!

I bought Michelin wiper blades 2-3 years ago. They were clones of the Rain-X Latitude wipers. The Michelin blades were about $12 each in Wal Mart, compared to about $18 each for the Rain-X. Anyways, the Michelins finally broke down. I decided to try out the Rain-X Latitudes, even though they're a little more money.

Long story short, the book in Wal Mart gave me the incorrect size for the driver's side blade. Told me it was 24". The one I had on there was 21". But I bought it anyway, being that that's what the book said. I put them on, and they fit nice. But then when I was using them today on my way home from work, the ends of the two blades will some times hit and the driver's side blade will SLAP against the window. Very annoying. Even more annoying that I spent $18 each on these.

Smile: I'm a pack rat, so I actually still had the old blades in my garage. I put the old 21" on there for the time being until I can get the correct size Rain-X for it.

Ticked: I just went on Amazon and found out that they have the Latitude blades for like half the fucking price than Wal Mart. The 21" blade is $7 plus shipping.

Oh, and if any one cares to hear a funny story about the day I bought the Rain-X blades... I bought the two blades from Wal Mart, took them home and put them on. I put the passenger side on, no problem. Then I open the driver's side and noticed that it's been opened already. Some one failed at putting an adapter clip on the blade, messed it up, and decided to return it. Some genius at Wal Mart decided to restock the fucking thing. And I decided to buy it. So I had to take it back, and what do you know, there's two soccer moms on the return line returning a billion baby clothes and it's taking forever. Long story short, I exchanged the blade, took it home and put it on. So now that you've heard the complete story about this blade... isn't it just fucking hilarious!

That's not the first time I bought something at Wal Mart and discovered it was returned. Years ago, I bought Doom 3 for the PC there. I really wanted it, they had one copy, and it wasn't too much money (I think $20 at the time). The only copy they had, the box was a little beat up, but I really wanted to pick it up, so I did. I took it home and opened it, and the instruction card was rolled up and stuffed inside it. Obviously some one had returned it. But I guess I was really eager to play the game, so I decided to go ahead and install it. Then I found out, the first disc must have been a bad pressing because it wouldn't work. This must have been why it was returned! When I took it back to return it and explained all this to the Wal Mart employee, I was told, "Well if you knew it was opened why did you buy it?" CHARLIE BROWN FACE. More like, if I knew it was opened, I WOULDN'T have bought it. You guys shouldn't put defective shit back on the shelves!

I really hate Wal Mart. I tell myself that I'm forced to shop there. And I kinda em for somethings, especially since they put the local K-Mart out of business and there's nothing else around my house. But I really do hate Wal Mart. I think I'm gonna stop shopping there. They don't deserve my hard earned money anyway, especially since they ruin local economies.

I hear ya man. But! If you go to (well at least my local) Wal-Mart, the place is empty from 6-8am. Half the fun of going to wal-mart is gawking at the shoppers, but that fun is quickly diminished by having to stand next to the shoppers in line.

I shop at wal-mart because I work there.

...that's pretty much the only reason. The prices aren't even all that great.

I shop there when I need something for a temporary use.

Just today I bought four great red lounge chairs for my home theater as I'm not looking for expensive chairs right now, and these will serve a purpose. And at $15 a pop, a great deal. Hopefully I'll save up for some D-Box chairs, but for now, the chairs are perfect.

Oh, and they do have some pretty good savings on deodorant.

Walmart is my childhood, guys. Don't crap on it.

Seriously, though, I do like Walmart. My local Walmarts stock DVDs I can't count on K-Mart or Best Buy carrying. And even if the other two do, Walmart often has them first.
