Re: Is the 3DO worth getting/opinions of console.
Has anyone ever played Lucienne's Quest? I've always been kinda fascinated by this title, as it seems to be the only true JRPG (at least in English) on the 3DO and one of the first 3D RPGs. Yet for some reason, I never hear anyone talk about and hardly ever see reviews. It goes for about $100 these days.
Tried playing it on the FreeDO emulator once, but the sound was effed up and it drove me crazy. Could only stand a couple of minutes of it.

And the default controls has you use the Start button (or whatever the 3DO analog is) as one of your action buttons. So it's technically fully playable with the standard controller.Balasubbie wrote:Essentially, it's an expensive rarity for the sake of just one extra button. Ouchies.RyaNtheSlayA wrote:Actually 5. I'd assume you press the Select button.Balasubbie wrote:Really? How d'you pause it? Has anyone played it this way? Is it alright?MrPopo wrote: So it's technically fully playable with the standard controller.
Also the play/pause and stop buttons are the 3DO start and select just fyi.

It's terrible. You essentially pick the punch or kick you never use and assign it to Start, since you'll never be hitting it in the match. But like I said, it's technically fully playable.Balasubbie wrote:Really? How d'you pause it? Has anyone played it this way? Thanks for the reply's so far. Besides the game mentioned the others I am interested in is Star Fighters as it seems the best version, same with Wing Commnader III. The PS1 version was so much worse.

Easier route to Wing Commander III would be to get it from GoG. Would pretty much need to go to that platform if you want to play the full series anyway, and if you like that style game there are some other big classics such as the X-Wing series on the PC (or Mac, though DOSBox might prove better for gaming than Sheepshaver or whatnot).ATARI800XLfan wrote:Thanks for the reply's so far. For the general topic though, I'd agree with the general sentiment - there's little that you simply have to have a 3DO for. Almost anything worth a second look was either a port, or got ported. It's fun as a curiosity, and for a laugh in the case of some titles (mostly at how bad they are), but I wouldn't recommend it if you're on a tight gaming budget.

Ballz 3D: Directors cut.
That's all you need to know, now go get a 3DO.

What is a fair price for a 3DO? Also which version is best. I personally like the Look of the Goldstar but I have heard it has problems with some games?

The best version by far is the Panasonic FZ-1, followed by the FZ-10, then the Goldstar. I'm not exactly sure which games the Goldstar is incompatible with, but I know that it feels extremely cheap. As far as price anywhere between 50-80 dollars depending on condition and included games. The FZ-10 and Goldstar will run a little less than the FZ-1 though.ATARI800XLfan wrote:What is a fair price for a 3DO? Also which version is best.
