Everyone is saying "alphabetical" for organization.
I never alphabetize anything. My organization system is obvious:
Top shelf - best games
Middle shelf - good games
Bottom shelf - crap games
Who needs alphabetical order? It's kind of arbitrary when you think about it.
Organize by year/generation or by system manufacturer?

Not when you're trying to remember what quality level you filed it under. One might think of a title they want to play, but I doubt anyone sits there thinking "I feel like playing a crap game today" unless that game shines when played multiplayer or drunk for the lulz or something.samsonlonghair wrote:Who needs alphabetical order? I'm gonna need another reshuffle soon. I've run out of room on a lot of my shelves (read - all but one are overflowing). Gonna need to invest in a couple of DVD bookcases I think.
Either way, as I said before, I just put games where they fit, alphabetically within system. Unfortunately, I have a lack of storage space now and there is nowhere else to put them >_<

I always thought it might be neat to arrange games by release date. That might get annoying to do though.
Might not matter so much to you if you only have 3 shelves worth of games, including an entire shelf dedicated to 'crap' (why the hell would you hold onto games you think suck?), but yeah.
The thing with alphabetical by console is that it makes it very easy to find specific games, especially if you have a larger collection. It requires no knowledge about the game other than the title, and you don't have to spend any time trying to remember whether you filed Super Smash Bros under 'multiplayer/party' or 'fighting' or whatever.samsonlonghair wrote:Everyone is saying "alphabetical" for organization.

Ah, a fellow Europeannimadesai wrote:I organize by how it fits on my shelves/Tv stands. Right now my Nes games are next to my Ps1 games. I don't really mind how they're organized, just as long as they're grouped by system, and then in alphabetical order. The saturn game boxes are so tall though that they didn't fit on any shelf standing vertically, I'm gonna have to adjust sometime. That said, with the god-awful saturn cases we have here, it might be better to have them laid flat, so the discs dont fall off the spindle and the cases dont fall open as easily, which often happens. Worst case design ever.
I agree, they are absolutely the worst designed cases ever. The manual knocks the disc off its very very loose spindle, the hing is made of the loosely glued on cardboard cover which has no plastic cover to protect it. Urgh.
Dreamcast cases are a close second though. So incredibly fragile...I don't think I have a single crack free case, and most have missing hinges.
