Nope. Parents would buy me stuff until I was ten, since then I've had to buy it all myself. REally teaches you the worth of money.
Systems: Game Boy, Game Boy Color, Game Boy Advance, N64, Gamecube, Xbox 360
WTB: Boxes for a silver Gamecube System(and a hyperport cover), and a box for an Ice Blue N64 console. Will pay 7.50 for each and shipping.

I started getting an allowance when I was in Kindergarten. Five bucks was so much money back in the day, lol! Towards the third grade, grades weren't enough to earn me that allowance; I had to start doing yard work. I stopped getting an allowance when I got my first job while I was a Junior in high school.

I was free labor until high school, then I became cheap labor. Since 9th grade my chores were:
Cook dinner for the family 5 days a week (which later helped me create a catering business when I was in college).
Set the table and clean the dishes.
Mow, weed, edge, and trim the lawn at least once a week (my parent's house is literally on the side of a mountain).
Dust and vacuum the entire house at least twice a week.
Mop the kitchen Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.
Wash, dry, and iron my own laundry.
...and I'm sure there's more, but all of that for a whopping $10 a week.
Also keep in mind that after school I'd usually have about 6 to 10 friends over every school day, because my parents didn't come home until 6pm, so my friends would come over and smoke/drink/play video games on my parent's big screen. So i also had to hide beer cans, roaches, and cigarette butts on top of everything. I had to buy my first car as well, which didn't happen until I was 20.
But no bullshit, even if I was labeled as a "rich kid" (seriously, my parents maybe upper-middle, but unless you have an elevator in your house you're not rich) I worked my ass off at home, plus worked at a BBQ joint over the weekends, and I wouldn't change a thing if I could go back in time. I was certainly a misfit back then, and my parents made sure I didn't have the free time to get into trouble, and it was a wise decision.

Wait, wait... I thought it was automatically assumed that an allowance was in return for doing chores. You mean to tell me there's people that are getting an allowance for doing nothing!?

Here in Mexico you require high-school to work anywhere so it's not as easy as it sounds. And I get my allowance due to my grades (I passed 8th. grade with an average grade of A- and right now my grades are in the A's (So far I've aced everything) ) and the insane ammount of effort I put into everything due to my health condition (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome). And I'm a spoiled bratZiggy587 wrote:Wait, wait... I thought it was automatically assumed that an allowance was in return for doing chores. Re: Did you get an allowance when you were a kid?
like what can u do with $7 a week?
I took money whenever I wanted to go out, and anything I wanted my parents bought me. I didn't get everything, but I got a NES, SNES,PSX,PC, and a cell phone in 9th grade. Its a common thing here that your parents would pay for everything. I know no one that would do chores to get money from his parents. The difference is some get $3 a day or $60 a day depending on your social/financial status and how frugal your parents are.

I got straight A's for a few for years in a row two reasons: Money from my parents and Chuck E. Cheese; that's a double bonus.KillerJuan77 wrote:And I get my allowance due to my grades...
I'm not positive, but I believe you received 4 coins for each A, 3 for a B, and so on. Even with all my coins, I still couldn't get past the first stage of Ghosts n' Goblins until I bought the NES cart.
*I'm digging up some old report cards tomorrow morning.

I got nothing. I had to find creative ways to earn money as a kid as I had a lot of garage sales to loot for Atari games. Ended up me going around the neighborhood on my 10 speed with a garbage sack collecting pop cans because they were everywhere. I took them to the recycling center and was making about 10 bucks a week. It was really cool when I wen to new developments and the carpenters would throw all their beer cans and pop cans in a pile for me. I think I made about $50 off one house alone. Pretty damn cool for the day. Plus I found a turtle and kept it as a pet. Double bonus.

I hated Chuck E. Cheese.
