Even then, all of the really Earth-shaking problems caused by Reploids could have been caused by humans just as easily. There's nothing about building missiles or dropping space colonies that requires one to be an android. I think the tragedy of Zero's story in X4 is trying to get this across. Reploids are nothing more and nothing less than non-biological people. There's nothing inherently wrong or dangerous about their existence.

The trouble comes when natural humans insist on treating these mechanical humans like conventional old robots. They want to be equals, or at least be left alone, and their desperation makes it easy for them to fall prey to Sigma's manipulation. Think of Magneto's role in X-Men (considering the love for Marvel among the staff, I doubt that's entirely coincidental), especially "Asteroid M".

The later X stories also draw heavily from the original Gundam stories, in which "spacenoids" (humans not born on Earth) are treated as inferior second-class subjects of the Earth government. The prejudice against spacenoid humans is amplified by rumors of super-powered "Newtypes" being born in space. The wrongful oppression of the spacenoids leads to a separatist coup d'etat, when the principality of Zeon declares independence from the Federation government of Earth--which leads to a civil war between Earth and its colonies. Although the colonists started their repeated rebellions out of ideals of justice, the problem escalates into genocide-- climaxing with an attempt to drop a space colony onto the Earth. Familiar at all?

Reploids aren't the real problem. We are, because of our intolerance.

Wow, 17 pages of analysis on the story of the various MegaMan franchises. I admire those fans who really try to understand the story and how they connect. It reminds me of those Zelda fans who try to piece together the entire timeline.

I don't try to understand the meaning of a game. I just play each one (Zelda) like it's a standalone and just enjoy it for what it is.

I have not played any Megaman games except for the first Zero very briefly. I really need to get into 1 or 2 more deeply.

In any case, carry on with the discussion.

Humans have so little direct representation in the later games that I am not really sure if they are to blame at all after the X era ended. Hell, in the Megaman Zero series I found myself feeling pretty bad for the small pockets of humanity left.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

On a random note about Sigma in X2, man, talk about a pushover. Haha, the final battles in that game are some of the easiest in the entire Mega Man franchise to me.

What did you think of the optional battle with Zero?

Easy as hell if you stick to the walls and dash jump

Personally, I love the battles with Sigma in X 4. They are epic, and the cutscene and dialog that precedes them if you're playing as Zero just get you amped up and ready to kick Sigma's ass!

X4 had some of the toughest Sigma battles I'd say.

I forget the Zero battle in X2, but yeah this is kind of how I play so I don't remember it being too tough lol:

I hold the SNES/PSX controller differently than any other game when I play them, I usually put my right index finger pointed inward on the circle/A button and I can very quickly dash, jump, and shoot simultaneously. It's so weird and I have no idea what made me play them like that.

If I may put in my two cents:

X4 - Worth it. Challenging, without feeling cheap ALL the time. Only sometimes will it feel cheap.

X5 - Most definitely worth it. An extremely fun game.

X6 - Kind of worth it. A good, challenging game, but the story may be confusing due to a not-so-perfect Translation. :P

X7 - Ehhh...Not really. I beat it, but it felt cheap most of the time, and the 3D Sections make it frustrating most of the time.

X8 - PLAY IT WITHOUT A SECOND THOUGHT.

Command Mission - It's alright, but the main reason you'd play it is for a resolution to the X Series, it being the last game in the X Series Canon.

Finally digging into Megaman Zero myself. The vibe is so weird, almost feels a bit more like Metroid, haha. Definitely digging it though.

This topic has really pushed me into a Mega Man mood. I even started digging into a bit (just a little bit!) of fanfiction for christ's sake. :?

I need to replay all of the games again. Yep, its time for it.
