How does one use a game shark to play imports? I'm trying to start getting in to the ss import scene and pretty much everything I've googled has just been links back to racket
I know that they wear out the pins but I've had the game shark in my saturn since I got it 5 years ago so I'm sure they are long since worn out.
Also do game sharks work just the same as a 4MB cart because my first game I plan on getting xmen vs street fighter and I know you need the 4MB cart for it and most of capcoms fighters on the system.

Any help is great I'm really not trying to buy an AR4-1 at the moment so if possible I'd just like to get by with what I've got.

Thanks

dude ill find you instruction if needed be, its really simple mod. Took me like 5 minutes to do mine and its a model 2 also. Anyways you can play any region with amodchip with a simple patch on the rom that takes like 1 minute with a certain freesoftware.

The GameShark does not have the extra video memory required by some games (like X-men Vs Street Fighter). This is why the 4-in-1 Action Replay is MUCH better than the GameShark. Though if you've been using a GameShark for that long, you might have a hard time getting other carts to work in there at this point.

But yeah, games that need that extra video memory, your GameShark is not gonna help you. You need to get a new cart if you wanna play those games. As I've said many times on the fourm, the 4-in-1 AR is the best option to get.

As far as playing imports using the GameShark, it's easy. Just have your GameShark in the cart slot, that's all you really need to do. Turn on the Saturn, GameShark will load (before the game, like it does anyway) then just hit Start Game whether you wanna select any cheat codes or not. There's nothing "special" that you have to do. Just boot the import like you would any other game while using the GameShark.

I actually just had a mod chip installed in my saturn by these guys,
http://www.segastyle.com/store/
I am not confident in my soldering abilities so I opted for their install service, and on the upside it covers the return shipping so anything else you order from them gets free shipping as well (you still have to pay to ship your saturn to them)

But depending on your model saturn and your skill level you can save the $30 and go for it yourself.

The mod chip allows for playing burned copies which is great for hard to find games or fan translations like the shining force 3 and dragon force 2 projects which is why I went with the chip.

As stated before you cant play legitimate hard copy imports without an action replay but if you download or rip the iso there is a program available to change the region to whatever happens to be your local area. burning the iso's can be a kinda tricky process depending on the format of the iso, I made quite a few coasters getting the hang of it thanks to the guide Ziggy wrote.
