Mod my Xbox?

Post by Segatari2002 »

Okay, first off let me just apologize if this has already been asked and answered here. I looked and didn't see my specific question posted so I'm doing it now. I recently bought an original Halo edition Xbox from a yard sale and I'm looking to get it modded to play games from its hdd. Here's the deal, I don't have the technical know-how to set this up myself and right now I'm swamped at work so I don't have the time to learn it all. Basically I'm looking for anyone who has experience with modding these things who would be willing to do this for me. I don't want anything too, too fancy. Just looking to drop in a modchip and a 2TB hdd that will allow me to play games straight from the hdd. The plan is to eventually start adding all the Xbox game library to the system in the future. So if anyone here on racketboy is willing to take this on, or if you can point in the direction of someone who can (I'm willing to pay for this service, of course), I'd greatly appreciate it.
Currently owned; Colecovision, Master System, TG-16/CD, SNES, Genesis/CD Mk1/32X, Saturn, Dreamcast, Jaguar/CD, Xbox, Wii, and PS3!!!

Dreamcast Tracker; 209 of 248 NTSC-U games collected.

My B/S/T Thread; http://www.racketboy.com/forum/viewtopi ... 22&t=31756

Also, if anyone has the case art for Popful Mail (Sega CD), I'd like to speak with you!

segatari,

i've took on the very task you're asking for with my xbox. I'd suggest going the softmod route instead of the chip (easier and cheaper), but the HDD is the current obstacle
i'm up against. I have a 2 TB SATA i'm trying to install currently. If i get it installed and running, and can document my process, i may take you up, but only as a softmod. I lack any soldering experience

Anything larger than 500MB is a total bitch to install. It means using some funky IDE-SATA converters and they're ropey at best with the Xbox. Modchips aren't really necessary as softmod can do everything that a hard mod can do. Hardmods are more permanent but that's about the only advantage really after the initial set up. Personally I think it's less work going the softmod route, probably takes less time too, but I've done it so many times now it's trivial.

My IDE to SATA adapter works fine and it was cheap on Amazon. Like 4 bucks. Jinn who is another user on here has a 2TB in his with the adapter and it works fine as well.
