Dreamcast not reading CD-R's

Post by nick944 »

I bought a "broken" Dreamcast on ebay, and just got it today. I calibrated the laser and it works perfectly now with regular games. Though on all of my CD-R's it just goes straight to the music screen. It's a NTSC U/C model 2 made in December 2000. So does this mean that it's true that Dreamcasts made after October 2000 can't read CD-R's?

What brand are you using? Have you tried a different brand?

Mostly Maxell and some Fujifilm, all of them work perfectly on my other two Dreamcasts.

Quite possibly. The milCD support was rumored to be taken out of that model.

Guess that's conclusive proof :P

has it got a 0, a 1, or a 2 in the little cirlce on the bottom label? they say the ones with a 2 will not play CD-R but ive had two that did, i guess it was the very last batches that had mil-cd removed

this is like one of the biggest uncomfirmed rumor I've heard of out there.

My conclusion is that I've heard people say that the consoles supposedly that don't work have gotten them to work. And I've heard from others that they didn't have it work for them, but they don't really know the whole process of burning a DC game and usually just burn the .nrg or .cdi file they downloaded off of some site. And finally I've had my dreamcasts some of which just not like some burns I do, yet play other ones. I've even done a burn, didn't work, burned it again on the same kind of disc and the same exact way and it worked fine! And 1 of my DC's doesn't like the first version of the Utopia disk for nothing... what the gay?

my point is... you can't confirm it with this one test, and you own 2 other dreamcasts so it isn't like its hurting you. So why even bother caring?

I was just wondering if it was actually true, I've had over 10 Dreamcasts that I have fixed and resold and this was the first that wouldn't. I know it isn't the CD's, I've tried about 20 and Feet of Fury which is pressed and designed to be read from the outside like a GD.
