whats more important? visuals or gameplay?
its the same gameplay on any tv, and we all know without gameplay visuals are meaningless.
i used a standard tv for the first 3 month i had a 360, hdtv isnt a huge deal, go ahead and get it and when you can afford to find a good deal on hdtv then you can upgrade.
i had lots of fun playing the 360 on my standard tv and graphix looks pretty good anyways.
Is it worth getting a 360 if you dont have a HDTV?

A great looking game is a great looking game no matter what kind of tv you're using. If you play games primarily for the gameplay, you'll find the experience is the same either way.
What exactly does a game have to do to be MADE for HD? Don't they take advantage of the higher resolution?
Seriously, how can you say the kind of TV doesn't change how a game looks? So you wouldn't care if you were playing Shenmue on a black and white TV that was 5 inches big? How can the experience possibly be the same?
You should play games on the kind of monitor they were meant for. That means playing Cave shooters on a proper arcade screen and Virtua Tennis 3 on an HDTV.

Sorry to go off topic a little. But I am also considering picking up a 360 myself and since there seems to be a bunch of 360 owners here I thought I would ask the question, What is the backward compatibility like with XBOX 1 games?

Exactly. Get the 360, you can't afford to wait for HD when great games are continually churned out on the system. Oblivion is my current favorite.claudio wrote:whats more important? visuals or gameplay?

Why not just get a PS2 or Xbox? You really wont see much a difference on your SDTV compared to some of the highly optimized games of last gen. Let's not kid ourselves into thinking gameplay has made any big leaps and bounds since. Graphics and presentation, sure. Unless you really need Xbox Live, I just dont see why you want a 360 for an old TV.

thats kinda my point, xbox 360 has some nice new games, such as grand theft auto 4 which is highly enjoyable on a standard tv, so dont let not having a hdtv stop you from playing some good games such asMozgus wrote:Why not just get a PS2 or Xbox? sega rally revo
virtua tennis 3
halo 3
virtua fighter 5
and other games
i know i had madden 08 for regular xbox and xbox 360, played them both on 360 and the 360 was superior in terms of graphix on a standard tv, and on top of the the games processes were much more powerful in terms of AI, animation and other features,
so yes playing a xbox 360 on standard TV is superior anyways, just not as good as hdtv (which is why i purchased one anyways when i was able to afford it)
Have you even played 360/PS3 on a standard tv?Mozgus wrote:Why not just get a PS2 or Xbox? Apart from games where the gui obscures gameplay. (ie Dead Rising, where you can't read what you're supposed to be doing next). The gameplay is exactly the same on HD and SD. Now as far as graphics are concerned. You don't need a HDTV to see that plenty of games have much higher polygon count and much nicer textures. I can see everything perfectly well on a standard definition TV. It doesn't stop me playing any game apart from the ones mentioned above. For those games I just use a TFT monitor... It's no big deal, the cable is only £10. Even then the only thing stopping me playing the game properly is the fact that the text is too small to read on the TV, I can see everything else. It just means that the devs didn't consider using a different font for SDTV. Which is an easy mistake to make when MS forces devolopers to create games that use 720p at a minimum.
Yes there is tons of benifits for getting a HDTV for the 360 due to the visual advantages you get from it. However, apart from clarity of picture you don't get any different kind of gameplay benefit. I can play just as well on halo 3/graw/gow as anyone else on a SDTV and FPS are the one games where bigger resolution is a benifit.
At the end of the day HD is nice, but not essential.

Could you try reading my posts when you reply to them? I said gameplay has pretty much stayed the same between this GENERATION and the last one. I didn't say HDTVs affect gameplay.devilmyarse wrote:Have you even played 360/PS3 on a standard tv?
