This place, Metroid Metal, and metal-archives are the only real big forums I've stuck with consistently over the years. Guess I haven't been around here as long as those other two but it's definitely the better place, Metroid Metal is really laid back too though and pretty awesome. metal-archives is okay, I only go there for one thread now, other than that yeah... mods who act like it's a job kind of make me laugh thesedays, even though I did that myself back in the day.

I was a mod at a huge forum once - I'm talking about over a thousand active users, several hundreds of posts a day. It really did feel like a chore, because there were so many people who were not part of the community who would jump in and stir up trouble, and well, you have to be fair when you're dealing with so many people. I prefer this smaller atmosphere, this tighter-knit environment, you cool folks, to those kinds of forum. I wonder if that may be part of it?

Throughout the years I've actually made it a point to not participate in forums where the Mods are jerks. So, yeah, it is easy to forget what a nice privilege it is to have good ones.

I haven't found a forum with a better community, and I'm not just talking about video games forums, but any forum I have been involved in. I have fond memories of the Cold War being referenced as having happened in popular media. You don't see TV shows making jokes about the Cold War anymore, even from the old members of the cast who lived through it.
